Under the general direction of the Section Manager, administers, develops and implements the Company safety, health and fire safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations. Critiques major safety projects and programs to assure the quality and efficiency of those services. Audits work methods and the work environment to provide protection for employees and to protect customers and members of the public from accidental occurrences. Performs investigations, reviews and prepares complete and accurate reports of injury, illness operating errors, and motor vehicle accidents to ensure compliance. Produces safety performance reports by organizations. Reviews regulatory standards and rules and converts same into Company policies and procedures.Provide general expertise on assigned environmental topics, and provide high quality, specific subject matter expertise in areas such as: stormwater/ waste water management, natural resource protection and enhancement, land use, environmental permitting, EH&S considerations for project planning and design, air quality and emissions tracking/reporting, and similar. Provide data management and reporting to understand the value of biodiversity enhancement and carbon reduction projects for internal and external reporting.Work with experts in and out of the company to establish and communicate biodiversity measurement methodologies and verifications.

- Ensures alignment with company policies, labor agreements, and legal requirements to promote cooperation, strong employee relations, and performance.
- Develops expertise in federal, state, and local safety regulations; provides ongoing technical support and compliance guidance across the company.
- Reviews accident trends and statistics to develop and implement safety mitigation programs that enhance workplace safety.
- Oversees various safety programs, including asbestos management, close call reporting, and clear access initiatives.
- Advises management on fostering a safety-conscious culture and delivers occupational safety and health training as needed.
- Conducts field visits to ensure compliance with safety standards and stays current with industry trends and innovations.
- Acts as company liaison during OSHA and other regulatory inspections or inquiries related to workplace safety.
- Maintains and updates company safety rules; assists departments in developing compliant work procedures and action plans.
- Participates in emergency management, storm response, mutual aid deployments, and coordinates safety orientations for mutual aid crews.
- Reviews contractor Environmental Health and Safety Plans (EHASP), represents the company on industry committees, and facilitates internal safety teams.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of relevant experience Practical Safety and/or Operational/Utility experience or
- High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant experience Practical Safety and/or Operational/Utility experience
Relevant Work Experience
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, and has the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management and the union, required.
- Has strong analytical and interpersonal skills, required.
- Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, required.
- Provides off-hour, on-call support for Safety-related issues, required.
- Work independently and with limited supervision, preferred.
- Knowledgeable in safety concepts and practices and ability to integrate within the line organizations, required, preferred.
- Industrial Hygiene background, preferred.
- NYS Asbestos Supervisor and Designer, preferred
- OSHA 30 Hour for either construction or general industry, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
- Must be able to walk off-road locations to do inspections, collect data, and similar job related functions typical for a wetland biologist or wildlife ecologist.
