Itron is seeking a dynamic and technically astute Manager of Pre-Sales Engineering (PSE) to lead a team responsible for delivering high-impact product demonstrations, lab environments, and solution integration efforts that accelerate sales opportunities. This team plays a key role in customer confidence building through technical storytelling, solution proofing, and value articulation across the Itron platform. The PSE function is central to securing new bookings and enabling repeatable, scalable field operations that influence wins across regulated and competitive markets. Job Duties & Responsibilities The short-term priority for this role is to create a sustainable and scalable structure that preserves demo knowledge and increases flexibility across the team. This includes:
Formalizing onboarding programs for new hires with product depth and demonstration capabilities. Building team agility by equipping members with cross-platform skills to minimize single points of dependency. Documenting demo workflows, lab configurations, and partner integration blueprints. Creating internal tools and enablement content that improve field access to ready-made demo materials. Establishing a bi-annual scoring matrix to evaluate team readiness across demos and integration coverage areas.
The long-term priority for this role is to drive solution-centric demo readiness, integration, and proposal support. This includes:
Own and expand a portfolio of product demonstrations that reflect Itron's full solution stack, including AMI, DI, MDMS, Grid Planning, and IntelliFLEX. Lead pre-sales lab-based proofs-of-concept (PoCs) to validate integrated solutions and support high-impact deals. Drive technical integration with partner technologies that result in reusable, validated solution environments ('Itron Inside'). Collaborate with Product Management and Services to ensure alignment of demo content with roadmap and field realities. Support proposal development through technical narrative, architecture framing, and partner storylines, especially in areas not fully addressed by Loopio and Deal Desk. Maintain a centralized Itron Demo Channel with scripts, videos, and documentation that enable internal and partner users. Mentor and manage a geographically distributed team, ensuring balanced workload and skill growth aligned to strategic priorities.
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in engineering, technology, or related field. 8+ years in technical pre-sales, product management, or solution engineering roles. 3+ years in leadership or team management roles with measurable team development and delivery outcomes. Deep experience with AMI systems, data platforms, and enterprise integration. Strong technical storytelling and demonstration delivery skills. Ability to manage and maintain virtual lab and PoC environments. Familiarity with partner technologies and technical pre-integration efforts. Experience contributing to regulated RFP responses and technical proposals.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Familiarity with Itron's product stack (e.g., IntelliFlex, Grid Edge Intelligence, MDMS). Experience using demo orchestration tools and video platforms. Exposure to standards bodies or meter schools (e.g., SWEMA, NC Meter School, DLMS-COSEM, ANSI).
Travel: Moderate travel is expected for demos, team collaboration, and customer meetings.
