West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), part of the WVU system of campuses located in Beckley, WV is currently accepting applications for a College Success Coach.

About the Opportunity

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of the TRIO Student Support Services Program, the College Success Coach will assist the Director and Assistant Director with implementing the goals, objective, policies, procedures, and activities of the TRIO SSS program.

What You'll Do



  • Conduct one-on-one advising meetings with students
  • Career and learning style assessments
  • Monitor academic progress
  • Prepare students for graduate school
  • Facilitate sessions covering financial literacy
  • Career and life skills
  • Graduate school admissions
  • Assist with completion of financial aid paperwork including scholarship applications and refer students to mental health counseling and career services

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Social Work required
  • 0-6 months (2) years of experience advising disadvantaged populations
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Ability to advise a caseload of participants and provide support in areas of academic advising, career advising, financial aid and graduate school admissions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Work independently or as part of a team
  • Flexible and adaptive to program needs
  • Ability to establish positive working relationships with university faculty, staff and administration
  • Ability to maintain student records and database information
  • Excellent planning and organization skills
  • Excellent record keeping skills
  • Knowledge of effective and proactive study skills strategies
  • Familiarity of local, state, and federal financial aid programs
  • Knowledge of graduate school admission policies and requirements
  • Familiarity of financial literacy programming
  • Knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Canva, and Social Media


Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's degree
  • Previous TRIO Program experience preferred
