Materials & Processes (M&P) Systems Lead

In this role, you will provide technical leadership in materials selection, processes, and qualification for next-generation intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) space environments. Your expertise will directly impact the safety, reliability, and success of NASA's future missions.
What You'll Do
Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for Materials & Processes (M&P) requirements in IVA/EVA environments. Advise on materials selection, process control, qualification, corrosion prevention, electrical bonding, flammability, toxic off-gassing, and specification compliance. Review and support hardware design, analysis, operations, hazard reviews, anomaly resolution, requirements verification, re-flight assessments, and flight acceptance testing. Develop and deliver presentations to NASA program boards and leadership. Integrate M&P requirements into hardware design and create verification & validation plans. Review program documentation, specifications, and engineering drawings to ensure compliance with M&P standards. Evaluate vendor processes for compliance, recommend improvements, and define qualification/acceptance testing. Provide manufacturing, inspection, and process support for human spaceflight systems. Perform other duties as assigned in support of NASA's human spaceflight programs.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Metallurgy, Materials Science, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Systems). 7+ years of relevant experience in Materials & Processes for aerospace or spaceflight hardware. Knowledge of space-qualified materials selection (metallic & nonmetallic), corrosion prevention, electrical bonding, failure analysis, adhesive bonding, heat treatment, and contamination control. Familiarity with material specifications, properties, and testing for space applications. Ability to review engineering drawings for M&P compliance. Broad understanding of M&P across multiple systems: propulsion, crew compartments, ECLSS, thermal, and electronics. Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly assess and explain technical risks. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary environments.
Preferred:
Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Engineering. 10+ years of M&P experience in spacecraft or aerospace programs. Previous NASA or human spaceflight project experience. Expertise in M&P for electrical components, oxygen systems, flammability prevention, contamination control, and qualification testing. Experience leading and mentoring technical teams.
