The Organization

Job Summary/General Purpose of Job


Responsible for overseeing and conducting CILA's national social work program to fulfill grant requirements and meet the needs of legal service provider organizations in the network serving unaccompanied children throughout the United States. Develops CILA's training and written resources related to the provision of social services to unaccompanied children, and for ensuring CILA's prompt and helpful response to technical assistance requests. Will train and supervise CILA's current social worker, who will assist in these efforts.


Principal Duties/Job Responsibilities



  • Trains and oversees the work of CILA's social worker and hires if there is a vacancy.
  • Reports regularly to the Deputy Director on grant requirements and strategies for addressing the needs of legal service provider organizations in the national network serving unaccompanied children.
  • Assists with conducting outreach to community organizations and mental health service providers for the purpose of developing and implementing social work approaches for the national network.
  • Seeks and develops opportunities for training on relevant issue areas to inform the work of social workers, counselors, and attorneys, augment trauma-informed approaches, and improve the delivery of CILA's services.
  • Provides support to the national network through technical assistance related to social work approaches and interventions including trauma-informed care.
  • Develops written resources for the national network on relevant issue areas to inform the work of social workers and counselors, as well as attorneys, to augment trauma-informed approaches and improve delivery of CILA's services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.



Required Education, Qualifications, Experience



  • Master's in social work or counseling from an accredited college or university, and a license to practice Social Work or Counseling.
  • At least five years' experience providing services as a social worker or a counselor, with at least a minimum of three years' macro-level experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Adobe and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams).
  • Must be familiar with conducting virtual meetings and training on software such as Zoom, Teams, etc.
  • Must be able to establish contacts and relationships with legal service providers nationally and assess needs.



Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience



  • Previous experience providing social work support and services to unaccompanied minors, whether detained or released.
  • Prior experience presenting to diverse audiences in person and in virtual spaces.
  • Prior experience creating written resources applicable to a diverse audience.



Physical Requirements


Most work will take place in an office setting (whether in CILA office space or from a home office if working remotely).


This role may require visits to the offices of legal service providers or other stakeholders and/or travel for professional training and conferences.


Must be able to carry up to 20 pounds.



Extent of Travel Required in the Job


This job may require some travel less than 15% of the time as a normal course of business.
