This position is accountable for maintaininginternal contacts with Production, Repair, Maintenance, Medical, and Emergency Response personnel. PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONS With minimum supervision, the Health & Safety (HS) Inspector should be able to provide Health and Safety guidance and support to the workforce. Ensures that the Company maintains compliance with all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to access all Navy installations and other shipyards.Must be able to enter confined spaces, work at heights and in confining or restricted spaces aboard vessels under construction/repair.Daily inspections require entering confined spaces, climbing ladders, working at heights, walking on scaffolding, observing use of tools and operation of equipment/machinery.Physical dexterity must allow for bending, reaching, climbing, crawling, and working on ladders and scaffolding.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to vapors, gases, dust, welding/burning fumes, and smoke. Must be able to spend up to 90% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.The noise level is usually moderate to extremely noisy 90% of the time, which may include sirens, horns, chipping, and hammering VISION REQUIREMENTS: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.A vision exam is required every ten (10) years to ensure: Natural or corrected near-distance visual acuity in at least one eye able to read the J-1 letters on Standard Jaeger Test Chart, or equivalent, at a distance of not less than: 12 inches (30 cm) with one or both eyes, corrected or uncorrected.Color perception using the Ishihara Test or the Farnsworth D-15 Test. If a candidate does not pass the Red/Green Sensitive Ishihara Test, the candidate shall take the Farnsworth D-15 Test. If the individual does not pass the Farnsworth D-15 Test, the inspector must be evaluated by a licensed medical practitioner to provide the necessary data to determine the inspector's color perception. Individuals certified after an evaluation by a licensed medical practitioner shall only be certified to perform inspection work that is within the inspector's color perception capability.The examinations required by above shall be administered by, or under the cognizant of, a licensed medical practitioner and documented on the vision test record. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the EHS Manager and HS Supervisor. Maintains internal contacts with Production, Repair, Maintenance, Medical, and Emergency Response personnel. RESPONSIBILITIES
