The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the Onsite Manager and will work closely with the Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: Cambridge, MA

Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (Monday-Friday) expected to be flexible and work outside the schedule as needed

Salary Range: $72,000 - $90,000 + 5% yearly bonus

What we're looking for

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or undergraduate degree in business or science related field is preferred

Experience:

  • 4-5 years of relevant experience in supply chain operations and customer service management.

  • Proven track record managing medium-sized, multi-level teams in dynamic environments.

  • Prior exposure to GMP and GLP standards; formal training is a plus.

  • Experience or potential to manage Scientific Services programs.

  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

Technical & Operational Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of supply chain processes and inventory management systems.

  • Proficient in SAP and third-party inventory platforms, as well as handheld scanning devices.

  • Skilled in troubleshooting across varied environments including stockrooms, labs, and dock areas.

  • Ability to maintain lab support equipment such as Glass washers, autoclaves, and instruments.

  • Strong understanding of process controls and compliance standards.

Leadership & Communication:

  • Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities, including coaching, conflict resolution, and performance development.

  • Ability to self-manage, drive change, and make sound decisions independently.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to serve as the primary liaison between Avantor teams and external customers.

  • Comfortable speaking confidently about service performance, communicating changes, and representing the team in customer-facing interactions.

Work Environment & Expectations:

  • Fully onsite role requiring daily presence and mobility across multiple buildings.

  • Not a desk-based position; requires hands-on support in stockroom, lab, and dock environments.

  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced setting.

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining KPIs and monthly reporting.

  • Will receive training from the Hiring Manager on general operations and customer-specific inventory procedures.

Avantor's Advanced Laboratory Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

The Site Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of 17 associates, including Technicians and Team Leads, across a dynamic, multi-building customer site. This fully onsite role requires hands-on leadership, operational oversight, and strong customer-facing communication. The Supervisor will ensure service excellence, team performance, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. In this role you will:

  • Lead and direct team efforts while performing tasks outlined in the Statement of Work (SOW).

  • Supervise a large team, ensuring coverage, performance, and professional development.

  • Coach and motivate team members to meet and exceed goals through mentoring and support.

  • Manage team capacity, training, performance appraisals, timecard reviews, vacation scheduling, and succession planning.

  • Maintain flexibility to work outside standard hours as needed.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the customer, confidently communicating service performance, updates, and changes.

  • Own and manage service programs, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and KPIs.

  • Build trust through consistent, professional communication and proactive issue resolution.

  • Provide site-wide support across multiple buildings, including stockrooms, labs, and dock environments.

  • Troubleshoot and coordinate services across varied operational areas.

  • Maintain and coordinate equipment maintenance such as Glasswashers, autoclaves, and lab instruments.

  • Ensure GxP compliance and adherence to Good Documentation Practices.

  • Utilize inventory systems including SAP and third-party platforms to manage stock levels and movement.

  • Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory; conduct cycle counts and annual physical inventories.

  • Maintain and update SOPs, SLAs, and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Create and maintain KPIs and deliver monthly reporting to internal and customer stakeholders.

  • Analyze data to identify trends, drive process improvements, and support decision-making.

  • Manage open order status reports, customer deliverables, and internal metrics.

  • Implement process improvement initiatives across departments within Avantor and with the customer.

  • Coordinate schedules and collaborate with team members to ensure workflow continuity.

  • Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Conduct regular reviews to identify process gaps and inefficiencies and implement corrective actions and improvements.

  • Develop and enforce audit-ready procedures aligned with customer requirements and regulatory standards.

  • Ensure documentation practices meet GxP and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) standards.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement initiatives across departments and customer programs.
