SALARY RANGE
$19.38/hr - $25.72/hr (Dependent on qualifications and experience)

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent GED; and
  • Three years lived experience working with American Indian education and/or field experience with American Indian communities.
  • Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in education, behavioral sciences, or related field
  • Three to five years classroom experience

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Equity Services, the American Indian Education Cultural Liaison is responsible for fostering intercultural awareness among students, families, and staff. This position supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of culturally responsive programs, activities, and services within the district. Serving as a bridge between American Indian students, families, schools, and communities, the Cultural Liaison affirms cultural identity, strengthens connections to heritage, and promotes the holistic success of American Indian students in alignment with the Minnesota Department of Education's American Indian Education program goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge and lived experience of American Indian history, heritage, traditions, and contemporary issues affecting students and families.
  • Understanding of Minnesota Department of Education's American Indian Education program goals and requirements.
  • Skill in building trust and maintaining effective relationships with students, families, elders, tribal nations, and district staff.
  • Ability to communicate across cultural and linguistic differences and facilitate activities that strengthen cultural identity and intercultural understanding.
  • Ability to collaborate with staff to integrate culturally relevant perspectives into district programs.
  • Proficiency in using technology for communication, data collection, and program coordination.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Serve as a cultural bridge between American Indian students, families, communities, and district staff.
  • Collaborate with district leadership and the Native American Parent Advisory Committee (AIPAC/NAPAC) to ensure programs reflect American Indian voices, align with MDE requirements, and provide monthly updates on activities and outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain family outreach systems to strengthen engagement and honor cultural heritage.
  • Coordinate cultural events, ceremonies, and learning opportunities that promote cultural identity and intercultural understanding among students and staff.
  • Mentor and provide direct support to American Indian students, promoting self-image, leadership, and postsecondary readiness.
  • Provide consultation and professional learning to staff on culturally relevant practices, curriculum integration, and student support strategies.
  • Collaborate with tribal leaders, elders, and community partners to strengthen school-community connections.
  • Assist the American Indian Programs Coordinator in advancing district educational goals through program support and culturally responsive initiatives.
  • Support data collection and reporting for MDE compliance and continuous program improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned
