THE POSITION
-
Washington County Office of Access and Opportunity is now hiring a Community Participation Coordinator to plan, organize, and support outreach initiatives and programs that connect community members with County services, programs, events and other opportunities. This position develops and maintains strong relationships with community members and partners and supports public engagement. The Community Participation Coordinator will support recruitment, training, and coordination of community incentives and participation. The role is instrumental in increasing visibility, participation, and building trust in County programs, especially among underengaged communities. Although not required to be considered, bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for include:
Knowledge * Principles and best practices of community outreach, volunteer coordination, and community engagement. * Best practices for working with diverse populations and fostering accessibility in participation. * Event planning, logistics, and promotion. * Volunteer management systems and tools. * Cultural understanding and responsiveness. * Local government services and public sector program operations. Skills * Strong organizational and planning skills. * Effective oral and written communication, including public speaking. * Ability to create and manage outreach materials using common digital tools (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp, social media platforms). * Strong interpersonal skills and relationship-building with diverse groups. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer management platforms. * Data tracking, reporting, and evaluation skills. Abilities * Engage with and support individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and communities. * Work independently and manage multiple priorities with attention to detail. * Represent the County in a professional and approachable manner. * Adapt communication styles and outreach approaches to different audiences. * Solve problems creatively and respond to challenges as they arise. * Coordinate large and small events efficiently, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Community Participation Coordinator is a working title. This position is classified as a Program Coordinator. Classification specifications are typically written broadly. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
- An Associate's Degree in a Health, Social Service, Business, or related field; AND three (3) years of work experience in program administration, development, evaluation, and/or contract administration. OR
- Five (5) years of experience in program administration, development, evaluation, and/or contract administration.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Selection Process
- Minimum Qualification (MQ) Review: Human Resources will screen applications for MQs after the posting closes.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) Review: Depending on the number of applicants that meet MQs, a SME panel may perform an in-depth evaluation of your application materials, including your cover letter and responses to the supplemental questions.
- Panel Interview(s): Our goal is to schedule panel interviews with candidates who successfully pass the SME Review as soon as possible.
- Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the successful candidate and extend a conditional offer of appointment.
- Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.
