Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist to implement treatment plans designed to help clients improve their ability to perform daily living and work-related tasks.
  • Carry out treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist to improve patients' motor, cognitive, and social skills.
  • Assist patients in performing therapeutic exercises, activities, and tasks.
  • Demonstrate the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate observations to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Provide encouragement, education, and support to clients and their families.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient activities, progress, and outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing reports for the Occupational Therapist and other team members.
  • Work closely with Occupational Therapists and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations, as well as professional and ethical standards.
  • Follow infection control and safety procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting from an accredited program.

  • Texas state licensure to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Basic Life Support Certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

  • Knowledge of therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as a COTA.
  • Experience in acute care rehabilitation.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

  • Ability to adapt therapy techniques to meet individual patient needs.
