Description

Federal Contract Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident

JOB PURPOSE: The Cook is responsible for the food preparation for all unaccompanied children (UC) in care of the Eagle Lake Children's Center during their assigned shift. The Cook is also responsible for following the approved menu so that each child received the daily required nutrients.


Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Prepare quality food for all children in care.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and hazard-free dining room and kitchen facility at all times.
  • Ensure the kitchen maintained in compliance with health department standards.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory for food purchases and equipment including monitoring waste control.
  • Wash, peel, and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking and serving.
  • Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and serving lines.
  • Ensure children are served according to the approved menu.
  • Maintain flexibility as census and demographic of UCs change.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:



  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Proficiency in Spanish/English (written and spoken language skills), highly preferred.
  • Successfully pass a TB test annually.
  • Successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned task.
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state, federal, and local child protection agency registries.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise a high level of confidentiality.
  • Affidavit for Applicants for Employment with a Licensed Operation or Registered Children's Home.


EDUCATION:



  • One year of experience in a food service preparation within a residential, educational, or daycare preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED.


LICENSES:



  • Food Handler Permit


WORK LOCATION:




  • Eagle Lake Children's Center in-person.
