Job Description:

TSC's Products Engineering Solutions (PES) Division in Huntsville, AL is currently looking to hire a Mechanical Engineering Designer with an education and industry focus in the mechanical/thermal design and packaging of electronics systems such as high density airborne or ruggedized electronics assemblies in support of radars/sensors, missile seekers and communications systems.

Responsibilities:

  • CAD Modeling & Drafting
    • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings under the direction of Mechanical Engineers
    • Generate complete drawing packages, BOMs, and documentation to support fabrication and assembly
    • Apply GD&T, DFM, and DFA practices to ensure drawings are clear, manufacturable, and accurate
  • Prototype & Production Support
    • Support engineers in preparing mechanical assembly packages for PCB and system builds
    • Assist in developing and maintaining production assembly procedures for builds
  • Collaboration & Coordination
    • Work closely with Mechanical Engineers to incorporate design intent into manufacturable drawings
    • Interface with suppliers, vendors, and fabrication shops to communicate drawing requirements and resolve build issues
    • Support engineers in integration and validation activities, including preparing parts, fixtures, and assemblies
  • Documentation & Testing Assistance
    • Maintain drawing revisions, configuration control, and technical documentation in accordance with company standards
    • Assist engineers in developing qualification test plans and preparing for testing at TSC or external facilities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or related field with 3+ years of experience supporting mechanical engineering projects
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Pro-E, or similar 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to create, revise, and check mechanical drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Familiarity with machining, sheet metal, 3D Printing and electronics packaging manufacturing processes
  • Experience applying design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) principles to support engineering intent
  • Ability to read engineering documentation and translate engineering requirements into detailed drawing packages
  • Experience working in a team environment with engineers, technicians, and vendors

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting aerospace or defense electronics packaging programs
  • Exposure to additive manufacturing (3D printing) for prototypes and fixtures
  • Hands-on familiarity with fabrication processes (machining, sheet metal, welding)
  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems such as SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, or Teamcenter
  • Familiarity with revision control, configuration management, and drawing release workflows
  • Ability to create CAD libraries of standard parts, hardware, and templates to improve team efficiency
  • Hands-on experience assembling mechanical prototypes, fixtures, or test jigs
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management systems
  • Familiarity with DoD documentation standards for drawings and technical data packages
