The Senior Systems Safety Engineer will provide expert technical and engineering support to the H-53 Heavy Lift Helicopter Program Office (PMA-261). The candidate will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive system safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense (DoD), NAVAIR, and MIL-STD-882 requirements. This position requires senior-level expertise to advise government leadership, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with safety standards throughout the program's acquisition and sustainment lifecycle.


Duties:



  • Lead system safety engineering efforts for PMA-261 platforms, including integration of safety requirements into design, test, and operational activities.
  • Perform and oversee safety analyses such as Preliminary Hazard Analyses (PHAs), System Hazard Analyses (SHAs), and Operating & Support Hazard Analyses (O&HAs).
  • Develop, maintain, and manage hazard tracking systems and ensure timely resolution of identified hazards.
  • Prepare and present high-level system safety documentation, including Safety Assessment Reports (SARs), Hazard Logs, and program safety case materials.
  • Provide technical leadership during program design reviews, Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and airworthiness reviews with emphasis on system safety.
  • Advise PMA-261 leadership on risk management, system safety certification, and compliance with applicable safety standards.
  • Support mishap investigations, root cause analyses, and development of corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), test organizations, fleet representatives, and other stakeholders to resolve safety issues.
  • Mentor and guide junior system safety engineers to build organizational expertise.


Required Experience:



  • 12+ years of system safety engineering experience in DoD or NAVAIR acquisition programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of MIL-STD-882 and application of system safety methodologies across acquisition phases.
  • Demonstrated experience leading system safety programs for complex aviation or rotary-wing platforms.
  • Strong background in hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation planning.
  • Familiarity with NAVAIR systems, policies, safety processes, and airworthiness certification requirements.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and technical writing skills.


Required Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field (Master's preferred).


Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Compensation at Precise Systems is determined by various factors, including education, experience, skills, competencies, and contract-specific requirements. The salary range for this position is $103,428.48-$165,485.57 (annualized USD). This range represents the standard pay for this role and is just one component of Precise Systems' total compensation package.
