Job Summary
The Department of Neuroscience and the Center for Advanced Pain Studies at UT Dallas have an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the Price Lab.
This position will contribute to NIH- and industry-funded projects focused on understanding how neuronal plasticity alters the brain's reception of nociceptive information from the sensory system, and how these changes relate to chronic pain. Additionally, the role involves work on a newly funded grant aimed at identifying and validating high-quality targets for chronic pain treatment. This project begins with human disease-based data, progresses through screening against receptors found in human dorsal root ganglia ( DRG), and culminates in functional validation using human DRG neurons.
The project has two primary aims:

  1. Whole genome identification and validation of factors that are necessary or sufficient for human nociceptor function.

  2. CRISPR screening for functional identification of novel targets for the treatment of neuropathic pain.

The selected candidate will work with human DRG tissue to:

  1. Advance our understanding of the basic molecular regulation of human nociceptors,
  2. Identify broadly applicable targets for specific manipulation of nociceptor function, and
  3. Discover new therapeutic targets for neuropathic pain by interfering with pain transduction or sensitization pathways already implicated in neuropathic pain patients.

This is a UTD and NIH-funded position. Salary for Postdoctoral Research Associates in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences ( BBS) is based on years of experience in accordance with current NIH ( NRSA) stipend levels. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position is funded for one year, with the possibility of renewal. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.
