Title of Position: Member Solutions Settlement/Bankruptcy Specialist

Position Type: Full-Time. Regular shifts include Monday to Friday 8:30AM - 5:30PM, Saturdays 9:00AM -12:00PM as needed.

Compensation Range: $23.00/hr. - $30/hr. *Hiring rates may be dependent on a number of factors, including years of directly related work experience, education, geographic location or special skills*

Location: Position is on-site at our McKinley Ave Office located at 24 McKinley Ave in Endicott, NY

Responsibilities/Duties:



  • Complete the bankruptcy process to include tracking for NCUA reporting, filing proof of claims, reviewing schedules to determine possible fraud, updating credit reporting, updating delinquency notices and statements, and updating members accounts to show bankruptcy status.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for attorneys and collection agencies for loans that have been referred out, or for bankruptcies, and prepares settlement offers for review by the Member Solutions Manager.
  • Input detailed collection activity notes and appropriately code accounts within core systems to aid with collection efforts and regulatory compliance.
  • Complete lift of stay requests.
  • Maintain knowledge of current Credit Union policies, governmental regulations (including Bankruptcy), and use that knowledge to effectively collect delinquent accounts. Maintain familiarity with various state laws in the various regions we serve as it pertains to collection and bankruptcy legislation.
  • Adhere to applicable laws that include, but are not limited to, Fair Lending regulations, Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Federal Trade Commission laws and regulations, and bankruptcy laws.
  • Promptly notify vendor partners when bankruptcy notices are received.
  • Ensure day to day collection activities are conducted within established credit union policies and procedures.
  • Assure that various record logs (bankruptcies, recoveries, negative shares, etc.) are in use, current, and balanced.
  • Assist with or complete monthly and quarterly delinquency and charge off reports for Management and the Board, and prepares other reports including, but not limited to, charge off reports, repossession reports, negative share charge-off reports, and recovery reports. Provide reports to management, the Finance department, or to the Member Solutions Manager for NCUA call report completion and ongoing monitoring efforts.
  • Monitor and process recovery payments received through attorneys, collection agencies, and bankruptcy trustees.
  • Counsel members in making payment arrangements acceptable to the Credit Union.
  • Complete 1099C form processing annually.
  • Prepare appropriate accounts for charge-offs, offsets the charge off to the corresponding GL, and tracks all charge-offs for the department.
  • Provide excellent member service while seeking to avoid charge off's, retain members, and protect the assets of the organization.
  • Provide departmental back-up coverage as needed.
  • Respond effectively to changing ideas, responsibilities, expectations, trends, strategies, and other processes.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:



  • Associate's degree required with 1-3 years of experience. 3-5 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, PCs, etc.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Collections experience.
  • Knowledge of Bankruptcy laws, Fair Lending regulations, Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Federal Trade Commission laws and regulations.
