Join our team as an Assistant Estimator and play a key role in delivering accurate and timely project bids for security & data projects including security, access control, alarm, video, and data systems. You'll collaborate with experienced Estimators, learn the full bidding process, and help identify project opportunities that drive business growth. Responsibilities

The basic responsibilities of the Assistant Estimator include but are not limited to the following:




  • Work under the guidance and mentorship of a Lead Estimator, to learn and understand the bidding process.



  • Perform take-offs, entering into the ProEst estimating system to support the estimating team.



  • Help prepare accurate plan & spec and design-build estimates for a range of projects.



  • Identify and evaluate bid opportunities that align with our company standards by assisting with the following:




    • Evaluate opportunities to ensure they align with our approved systems and product list.



    • Identify opportunities that stretch our deployment through project management and field teams.



    • Identify projects that bring in new customers to expand our client base.



    • Help secure projects that grow our business in existing markets or help us expand into new ones.




      • Assist in analyzing the financial impact of new customers and markets to help ensure project success.







  • Learn and understand the difference between revenue and profit and develop the ability to assess if opportunities will be within an acceptable group margin.



  • Develop, document, and communicate the trade specific scope of work with exclusions and clarifications.



  • Review all architectural, structural, mechanical, and specialty systems drawing and specifications and input requirements into a recap spreadsheet.



  • Alongside the Estimator, review all project documents, including the contract, ensuring the contract is reviewed also reviewed by legal counsel.



  • Source and qualify subcontractors, compiling a list of at least three per trade when possible.



  • Develop subcontractor and material scopes as well as compile a list of required materials and equipment as it relates to the project, including equipment rentals, lifts, and tools.



  • Communicate RFP, scope, and coordination items.



  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs, price, and labor on all items.



  • Perform change order estimates.



  • Assist in the development of budget estimates.



  • Understand plan for constructability: material handling, pre-fabrication, means and methods, identify risks



  • Identify customer/contractor specific requirements: safety, background checks, and/or system enrollment



  • Participate in key project milestones including attending pre-bid conferences and walk throughs, project turnover and setup, and post project reviews.



  • Review project schedule and phasing requirements.



  • Assist the team in developing standardized assemblies and unit costs.



  • Collaborate with other roles and groups internally.




Requirements


  • Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma.



  • Preferred but not required: Two year degree, applicable vocational technical certificate or Union JATC education, and/or industry experience.



  • Preferred but not required: Four year related degree and/or industry experience.




Qualifications


  • Ability to learn and gain a working knowledge of codes in the limited energy/electrical discipline.



  • Willing to learn and grow from constructive feedback.



  • Ability to read and interpret specs and blueprints.



  • Proficient in the use of standard office equipment and computer programs such as MS Project, Google Suite, Word, and Excel.



  • Strong organizational skills and ability to deal with competing customer needs.



  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.



  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide sufficiently to perform standard mathematical calculations.



  • Ability to foresee events and anticipate changes in conditions and operations to the greatest extent possible and react to these appropriately.




Working Conditions


  • Performance of duties will be in the office, at customer sites, and job sites as needed.



  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.



  • Exposure to loud noise, dirt, and exposure to the elements are to be expected on job sites.



  • Climbing ladders/stairs, uneven ground, bending, kneeling, and twisting are to be expected on job sites.

Salary Range: $42,000-$55,000 (subject to such factors as experience, education, and/or skill set) plus potential annual discretionary bonus.
