We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Claims Manager to lead a team of 10-12 Claims and/or Team Specialists. This role is ideal for someone who brings deep expertise in State Mandated Disability Leave (DBL), Paid Family Leave (PFL), and Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) claims and has a strong track record of people management. The Claims Manager will oversee daily operations, coach team members, manage escalated issues, and drive performance through data-driven insights and continuous improvement initiatives.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic thinking and technical proficiency. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in DBL, PFL, and PFML claims, capable of navigating complex regulatory environments while inspiring and developing their team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of Claims and Team Specialists, ensuring high performance and engagement.
  • Oversee day-to-day workforce management, including scheduling, workload balancing, and prioritization of claims.
  • Ensure compliance with DBL, PFL, PFML regulations and other relevant state mandates.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for DBL , PFL, PFML claims and escalated issues.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance appraisals, and coaching sessions.
  • Analyze KPIs and reporting to identify trends and inform action plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and cross-training efforts.
  • Support onboarding, training, and development plans for new and existing team members.
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge Required
  • Proven leadership and people management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of DBL, PFL, and PFML claims processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and drive performance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Ability to manage escalated issues and serve as a technical resource for the team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of direct experience managing DBL, PFL, and PFML claims.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a claims or insurance operations environment.
Protective's targeted salary range for this position is $66,500 to $81,850. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience. The range listed is just one component of Protective's total compensation package for employees.
