Apply now About Adjunct Faculty in Community Dimensions in Medicine course (DUCOM - Master Science in Biological Studies and Interdisciplinary Health Science programs) About College of Medicine - Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies The Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies (GSBSPS) offers over 40 doctoral, master's and professional development programs. These academic programs emphasize real-world experience and help guide students to make career decisions that best fit their abilities and evolving needs. As part of its portfolio, the GSBSPS at Drexel University's College of Medicine offers the Master of Science in Biological Studies and Interdisciplinary Health Science programs targets students who would benefit from enhancing their applications to medical or other health professional schools. For decades, our pre-medical and pre-health programs have helped talented students develop strong, well-rounded academic portfolios, and become competitive candidates for health professional schools. Since launching our first program in 1981, we expanded our programming to respond to the diverse needs of applicants to the health professions. We now offer five distinct master's level record-enhancer programs, one- and two-year options, and an evening certificate program for career changers. Our goal is to accommodate students with varying degrees of academic preparation, diverse backgrounds, and different career goals in the health professions. Job Summary Adjunct faculty are expected to provide relevant course content (including lecture material), subspecialty lectures (as needed), and any other academic materials deemed appropriate by CDM course leadership. Adjunct faculty are expected to work closely with program leadership to ensure targets/deadlines are being met appropriately and that materials are being delivered in an engaging manner. Adjunct faculty are responsible for ensuring that the academic materials they are delivering are kept current. Essential Functions This course introduces students to the community dimensions of medicine in an effort to provide skills and insight that will expand their cultural competence as they move towards a career in healthcare. The curriculum is designed to integrate key principles of health and healthcare inequities with concrete experiences had while volunteering with local health service sites. Students will be challenged to reflect on individual, societal and institutional factors that contribute to their own health as well as their surrounding community. Through a cohort-wide project that consists of planning and managing a health symposium, students will have the opportunity to network with public health researchers and healthcare professionals.
