Job Description

Utility Aid - Yard Coordinator

Schedule First Shift: 7:30am - 4:00pm

PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, the Utility Aid - Yard Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all yard, shipping, receiving, and inventory activities in alignment with company quality and safety standards. This role manages outbound shipments with vendors, places orders when inventory is low, and performs cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory levels, ensuring materials and equipment are available to support production operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Shipping & Receiving

  • Coordinate all outbound shipments with vendors, including scheduling, documentation, and staging of materials.
  • Receive and verify incoming deliveries; inspect for accuracy and quality before distributing materials.
  • Transport materials, tools, and scrap using a forklift or other approved equipment.

Inventory & Ordering

  • Monitor stock levels and place orders when inventory is low.
  • Perform cycle counts and reconcile inventory records to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supplies at appropriate levels to support production needs.
  • Track and log transactions in the company computer system (time, receipts, material movements).

Yard & Equipment Maintenance

  • Organize and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient yard, warehouse, and storage areas.
  • Operate forklifts, hydraulic barrel grabbers/dumpers, and other material handling equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation.

General Duties

  • Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with department supervisors, operators, and vendors; maintain professional communication at all times.
  • Provide training for transfers and new hires assigned to the department.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying issues and suggesting solutions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or department leads.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  • This position reports directly to the Purchasing Manager.
  • Works closely with Production Supervisors, Department Leads, and other plant personnel to support material flow and yard operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work an 8-hour shift, plus overtime as required.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching throughout the shift.
  • Regular lifting and carrying of materials up to 35 lbs.
  • Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception for safe equipment operation.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, hydraulic barrel grabbers/dumpers, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work indoors in warehouses and outdoors in yard environments in varying weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior forklift experience and current certification required (or ability to renew prior to hire).
  • 1-2 years of experience in shipping, receiving, inventory control, or warehouse/yard operations preferred.
  • Basic computer skills; ability to log transactions, track time, and update inventory in company systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and with vendors.
