Join Smithfield Foods as our Retirement Plans Manager and take the lead in shaping the future of our retirement and equity programs.In this strategic role, you'll oversee the administration and compliance of our retirement plans-including Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution, 401k and other supplemental plans ensuring they align with company goals and deliver long-term value to our employees. You'll drive plan design enhancements, lead system and process improvements, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure seamless operations and financial stewardship.

Beyond day-to-day oversight, you'll champion initiatives that improve employee understanding and engagement with their retirement benefits. You'll also play a key role in special projects such as mergers, acquisitions, and organizational restructuring, bringing your problem-solving skills and strategic mindset to complex transitions. WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Plan Oversight & Strategy

  • Administer and ensure compliance for all retirement programs, including but not limited to Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution, and 401k plans.

  • Lead plan design proposals, system updates, and process improvement initiatives with internal and external partners.

  • Support benefit reviews and integrations during mergers and acquisitions, including legacy plan transitions.

Communication & Compliance

  • Develop and execute communication strategies to enhance employee understanding of retirement benefits.

  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, IRS, DOL, and SEC regulations; oversee filings, audits, and plan documentation.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for internal and external stakeholders on plan-related matters.

Vendor & Team Management

  • Manage relationships with third-party administrators, actuaries, and legal/HR partners.

  • Monitor vendor performance and lead evaluations and transitions as needed.

  • Lead and develop the Retirement Plans team, structuring workflows for efficiency and accountability.

WHAT WE'RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field and 5+ years of relevant experience in human resources, benefits or related, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Extensive working knowledge of defined benefit plans required;

  • Analytical and conceptual thinker capable of executing ideas and managing long term projects;

  • Demonstrated skill in collecting and analyzing data, evaluating vendor performance, and drawing logical conclusions;

  • Advanced skills in using a computer with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and other business software tools to prepare reports, memos, plans, summaries and analyses.
