Department Profile:

Duke Primary Care in Sweetwater offers comprehensive family medicine and lab services in one location. For adults, services include internal and family medicine, annual physicals, preventive care, sick visits, immunizations, chronic illness management, women's health care, and diagnostic tests such as lab work and X-rays. For children and adolescents, care includes well-child visits, routine checkups, physicals, immunizations, and management of conditions such as asthma, allergies, and diabetes.

Open Monday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Tuesday - Friday 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM, and Saturday 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Job Summary:

Provides routine acupuncture services to Duke Health patients. The acupuncturist may perform or prescribe treatments including acupuncture, acupressure, East Asian Massage nutrition and dietary guidance, in addition to other practices of integrative medicine as authorized under North Carolina acupuncture licensure, with the goal of promoting, maintaining,and restoring health.

Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Provide acupuncture to patients and clients thatsafe, effective, and appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team and participate in patient care conferences. Consult with treatment staff regarding patient care plans as needed.
  • Explain procedures clearly, tailored to patient/client needs and preferences.
  • Perform and document initial health history, assessments, and evaluations.
  • Conduct and document all treatment sessions in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Apply appropriate acupuncture techniques in line with professional standards including clean needle technique.
  • Maintain patient/client confidentiality and sensitivity; report any unusual interactions to a supervisor immediately.
  • Develop, review, update, and implement educational materials for patients/clients, the public, and healthcare professionals.
  • Teach and mentor students and residents at Duke Health.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission and goals of Duke Health.



Required Qualifications at this Level

Education:



  • Must provide evidence of successful graduation from an NCALB-approved program.


Experience:



  • At least 3-5 years of clinical experience providing acupuncture services.


Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:



  • Current and valid licensure as a Licensed Acupuncturist (LAc)by the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board.
  • Current ability to meet or exceed all criteria for Duke Medical Center Licensed Acupuncturist privileging.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of East Asian Medicine, including theory, principles, techniques, and methods.
  • Must be able to run multiple treatment rooms at a time.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Self-directed and motivated to function independently, while also being effective as a team member.
  • Commitment to the vision of Duke Health
