The STEAM Technical Assistance Center (TAC) at West Virginia University (WVU) is currently seeking applications for a new Program Director. About the Opportunity STEAM TAC is a collaboration between the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), WVU, and the West Virginia Public Education Collaborative (WVPEC) that strives to enhance STEAM educational opportunities and career pathways among West Virginia middle and high school students. The position's primary responsibilities include assisting with the oversight and administration of the STEAM TAC, as well as identifying, writing, submitting, and managing public and private grants to support the center's existing and future program needs. The position will also work with STEAM TAC leadership to appropriately collect, analyze, and report data on the performance of the program to federal, state, and private funding agencies. What You'll Do
- Assist, support, and collaborate with the WVDE-WVU STEAM TAC leadership team to:
- Ensure the successful development, implementation, and sustainability of the WVDE STEAM TAC.
- Develop and implement effective STEAM educational immersions, educator professional development programs, curricula, and resources.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with various stakeholders at the national, state, and county school district levels.
- Develop networks and relationships with West Virginia schools, agencies, and organizations to support STEAM education (formal and non-formal) for West Virginia educators and youth.
- Support daily operations and assist in managing the program using appropriate WVU systems and protocols, including the oversight of STEAM Specialists to ensure work meets stipulated timelines and quality.
- Create and manage a micro credentialing system in Mountaineer Micro Academy for educators that supports professional growth in STEAM and entrepreneurship education, including developing course content, setting credential criteria, and tracking program outcomes.
- Travel regularly to schools and educational events, including STEAM TAC classroom immersions and professional development programs across the state with occasional overnight stays.
- Seek and maintain external grant funding opportunities, contracts, and unrestricted gifts to support and sustain the WVU STEAM TAC.
- Work with the WVU Office of Sponsored Programs and WVU Foundation to write, submit, and manage grant proposals.
- Assist the WVPEC Executive Director in overseeing and managing STEAM TAC expenditures and expense reporting, including developing and monitoring the monthly WVU STEAM TAC budget.
- Collect and analyze data to track progress for the preparation of monthly updates and yearly reports. Assist with writing and submitting required assessments and reports as needed.
- Provide planning, logistics, and onsite support for conferences, meetings, and events hosted by STEAM TAC.
- Collaborate with communications staff to prepare and maintain the STEAM TAC website to include a calendar of events, the TAC Specialists' travel calendars, a registration site for classroom visits, and classroom support resources (review and update regularly for accuracy).
- Prepare and edit teaching materials and resources for STEAM TAC activities.
- Assist with procuring and managing the necessary supplies, materials, and equipment needed for STEAM TAC programming, including ordering programming supplies through Mountaineer Marketplace with purchases on a Pcard and the use of MyExpenses to reconcile credit card expenditures; as well as tracking, managing, and overseeing supply inventories through databases to be used by the TAC Specialists.
- Collaborate with technology staff to order and maintain all STEAM TAC technology, including laptops and other equipment.
- Attend applicable regularly scheduled meetings within STEAM TAC and between the WVDE/WVU point(s) of contact and the staff at the WVU STEAM TAC.
- Meet deadlines while handling sensitive timelines and sustaining long-term projects and outcomes.
- Train and supervise undergraduate and graduate assistants and interns as needed.
- Complete other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, in-state travel for meetings, professional learning, etc.
Qualifications
- Master's degree
- A minimum of five (5) years of related experience
- Experience in a teaching or educational field preferred
- Grant writing experience with an education focus preferred
- Experience managing or supervising others preferred
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to foster collaborative team relationships. Knowledge of the grant application process, submission, and management of funds. - Established ability to schedule, organize and perform multiple assignments with minimum supervision.

- Exceptional organizational and logistical skills.
- Ability to work across disciplines and departments, as well as within the office, to finish projects and/or achieve goals of the STEAM TAC and the university as a whole.
- Demonstrated ability to work with commonly used enterprise technology programs, including but not limited to all applications within the Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, SharePoint, Qualtrics, and Outlook.
- Holds a valid driver's license permitting the applicant to drive a state-owned vehicle with a willingness to travel.
Preferred:
- Experience writing, developing, and integrating STEAM lessons aligned to WVDE educational standards and policies, via in-person demonstrations, online platforms, or virtual showcases.
- Experience developing and conducting the delivery of professional learning programs for educators.
- Experience with managing budgets in an educational and/or non-profit setting.
- Evidence of skills required to lead public initiatives involving collaboration with various public and private entities related to STEAM.
