Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Technology Transfer / NPI Senior Engineer I will lead the introduction and transfer of new medical device products and manufacturing processes from design and development into commercial production. This role ensures smooth, compliant, and efficient transitions of products from R&D to Operations, leveraging strong technical, process development, and project management skills.

This technical lead will serve as a key interface between R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams, driving process readiness, risk mitigation, and design-for-manufacturability to achieve Avanos's high standards for quality, reliability, and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Lead technology transfer and new product introduction (NPI) activities from concept through validation and production ramp-up.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive technology transfer plans, including process definition, equipment qualification, and production line readiness.
  • Partner closely with R&D to ensure robust design for manufacturability (DFM) and process scalability.
  • Lead process development, optimization, and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) activities for new or transferred products.
  • Support risk management through DFMEA and PFMEA; identify and mitigate potential process and quality risks.
  • Define and document manufacturing process parameters, control plans, and Critical-to-Quality attributes (CtQs).
  • Collaborate with supply chain and procurement to qualify suppliers and materials for production readiness.
  • Support design control activities and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Drive root cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions during pilot or early production phases.
  • Champion continuous improvement in product transfer methodology and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and resource for junior engineers and cross-functional partners.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and milestones effectively to leadership and stakeholders.



Your qualifications

Required:



  • B.S. degree in engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience in technology transfer, NPI, or manufacturing process development within a regulated industry (medical devices strongly preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of design controls, process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and risk management (FMEA).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional project teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (Minitab preferred) and methods such as DoE and SPC.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and presentation.
  • Hands-on experience with process troubleshooting, equipment qualification, and process scale-up.



Preferred:

Knowledge of automated assembly processes, plastics molding, or high-volume disposables manufacturing.

Prior experience in a global transfer environment (U.S. to contract manufacturer or international site or vice versa)

Salary Range:

The anticipated average base pay range for this position is $104,000.00 - $121,000.00. In addition, this role is eligible for an attractive incentive compensation program and benefits. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the base posted.
