Job Description

SUMMARY:

To assist the Manufacturing Engineering team in their daily work and to complete special assignments. The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) job has responsibility for the manufacturing process and supporting operations by creating Master Routings, Verifying Bill of Materials, Implementing Process Improvements, Improving Efficiency/Throughput, Implementing Tooling, Conducting Reviews, Analyzing Data and Implementing Solutions. Must work well in a team environment and individually at times. This role is a preparatory role for company future hires in Manufacturing Engineering for a competitive advantage. This position reports to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering with dotted-line supervision by one or more Manufacturing Engineers.

What is the MISSION for this person?

This person is to assist the ME team to accomplish projects focused on improving processes/efficiency, increasing data accuracy, increasing capacity developing and supporting the Manufacturing Team while improving the effectiveness of the team and the company as a whole.

To support in the following areas:

  1. Technical support of current production and legacy programs
  2. Manufacturing Engineering support and management
  3. Data reduction, analysis and process integrity
  4. Technical report generation
  5. Process improvement, automation, and standardization
  6. Root Cause and Corrective Action Implementation

Potentially working with all groups within the company to complete tasks as required. Groups include, but are not limited to: Operations, Quality Engineering, Program Management, Design Engineering, Tool Design, Purchasing, Contracts, and Shipping/Receiving.

Desired background (education, years and type of experience, skills and knowledge, etc.)

  • A student working toward, or recently graduated with, a BS or MSin Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Physics. Other technical degrees may be considered.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Can demonstrate ability to face unfamiliar problems and apply engineering and physics principles.
  • Can demonstrate leadership and technical competence, backed by examples of actual execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex projects into actionable and measurable tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

The intern position can lead to becoming a Manufacturing Engineer or can lead to other technical positions within the organization, depending on need and aptitude. At any given time, approximately 25% of the Engineering and Programs department employees were at one time interns with the company. Historically, approximately 50% of interns have been offered positions based on intern performance and job availability

Qualifications

What are the company expectations of an intern?

  • Works hourly. Maximum 29hours per week. Schedule is flexible to account for coursework; to be agreed upon with direct supervisor.
  • Must work physically on site, typically in a cubicle environment or on the production floor.
  • In addition to various daily duties will perform at least one primary project during the term of employment, which will be reported on and presented in a team review environment.

Target Rate = $25/hour

Monday - Friday Maximum 29 hours per week
