Join the UW-Madison Libraries HR team and support the people who lead in curating, preserving, and sharing knowledge to advance the mission and strategic priorities of our world-class research university. As part of the Libraries HR, we serve more than 200 full-time staff and 400 part-time and student employees in multiple locations with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and service. We provide timely, professional, and positive support that builds strong partnerships across the Libraries and beyond. As a HR Business Partner, you will deliver frontline HR services across payroll, benefits, recruitment, employee lifecycle, and student support. You will work closely with leadership and staff to shape a positive employee experience. If you enjoy problem-solving, building relationships, and making an impact, this is the position for you.

In this capacity, you will take on a variety of duties that ensure our employees receive timely and effective HR support, including, but not limited to:


  • Payroll: Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and timely

  • Benefits Administration: Administer benefits, including new hires, life events, and open enrollment

  • Student Lifecycle: Process student hires, terminations, compensation changes, and promotions

  • Employee Lifecycle: Support the employee lifecycle by onboarding and offboarding employees and processing various HR transactions

  • HR Compliance: Conducts audits to ensure HR compliance and completion of staff training

  • Process Improvement: Create and update process documentation and identify improvements that drive consistency and efficiency

  • Parking: Facilitate parking assignments for employees


This position is eligible for partial remote work. A remote work agreement may allow for a maximum of 40% remote per week.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Receives and responds to inquiries in-person, via email, and through various communication mediums and relays information to appropriate entities

  • Audits human resources reports to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures

  • Contributes to the development of strategic plans and directs staff implementation of initiatives in alignment with strategic goals

  • Serves as a consultative Human Resources resource and liaison. Interprets, advises on, applies and disseminates complex policies, procedures, and options to leadership and employees; and recommends best strategies according to established objectives and goals

  • Facilitates and processes complex transactions and programs according to established policies and procedures

  • Develops and implements processes and procedures for one or many various HR functions such as employee trainings, recruitments, compensation, and payroll

Compensation:

Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well-qualified applicants can anticipate earning between $60,000- $85,000 with final salary based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in two or more functional areas: payroll, benefits, recruitment, onboarding, and/or compensation
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to build effective partnerships
  • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize workload, manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively, and follow-through on tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Workday
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Professional experience in communicating complex information related to employment law and/or HR policies to a broad audience
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret policies and procedure as well as federal and state laws and statutes related to HR
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting

Education:

Bachelor's Degree Preferred in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field
