THE POSITION

The Department of Agriculture is looking for a dedicated Emergency Response Program Specialist to lead the development, implementation, and management of emergency response strategies aimed at safeguarding animal health during crises. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Bureau of Animal Health and Diagnostic Services' mission to prevent, detect, and eliminate dangerous transmissible diseases (DTDs) affecting livestock and poultry, including foreign animal diseases. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the Bureau is always prepared for animal health emergencies and, during such events, implementing disease control measures in collaboration with Bureau leadership. You will also provide technical expertise in the planning, development, coordination, and enhancement of strategies, training, and procedures aimed at mitigating risks from dangerous transmissible and emerging diseases. Furthermore, you will ensure that the Bureau's emergency response equipment is fully operational by overseeing timely maintenance, updating technology, training staff on equipment use and maintenance, and ensuring adequate supplies are available

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Administrative Officer 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Three years of experience in progressively responsible and varied office management or staff work, including experience in personnel management, budgeting, or procurement; and a bachelor's degree; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a valid driver's license.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
