What Your Job Will Be Like

We are seeking an R&D Quality Management Systems (QMS) Engineer to join our Surety & Design Engineering and Weapons Quality Team. In this role, you will develop, implement, and maintain strategies that guide R&D project teams toward successful product qualification and delivery.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Conduct independent assessments of the Nuclear Deterrence (ND) QMS to enhance internal processes for product realization, identifying and addressing systemic issues that may impact mission execution.
  • Collaborate on lab-wide initiatives and communicate effectively across multiple roles and technology areas to support product realization teams in meeting federal requirements.
  • Contribute critically throughout the entire product realization lifecycle, from conceptual design and development to production, maintenance, and retirement, including requirements engineering, traceability, validation and verification (V&V), risk analysis, and crucial technical documentation.
  • Develop comprehensive requirements traceability reports, verification/validation plans, qualification plans, and engineering authorizations to ensure products meet all requirements and design intent.
  • Apply critical thinking to identify, assess, and mitigate risks through the practical application of defect prevention, ensuring the development of safe, reliable, and robust products.
  • Write detailed reports on assessment findings, presenting them to line management and ND governance boards
  • Lead through influence rather than authority, integrating people, teams, products, and activities across multiple technologies.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
