Job Summary

The Product Manager - Underground Cable Accessories (UCA) supports the day-to-day inside sales support of SAM's, Account Managers, Customer Service Reps, and customers by providing product, application, and technical support and service. At times, may make joint sales calls with SAM's or Account Managers to secure orders and perform other sales support functions for underground cable accessory products and services, by providing customers with field support, application support, training, and other services as required. Consults with customers on product and system applications. Provides customers with timely follow-up on quotations, technical inquiries, and other requests.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Works closely with Border States' sales and marketing teams to meet and exceed sales and gross profit objectives.
  • Actively participates in the marketing, planning, and sale of Border States' technical products and services.
  • Consults with customers on product and system applications, providing timely follow-up on quotations, technical inquiries, and other requests.
  • Provides technical and specialized product support for branches and customers, including field support, application assistance, and training as required.
  • Partners with Account Managers, Customer Service Representatives, Product Managers, and vendors to support day-to-day operations and resolve customer needs.
  • Holds in-depth, technical discussions with consultants, customers, and employees related to product technology and applications.
  • Leads customer and employee training on new and existing product lines, applications, and system technologies.
  • Provides input to pricing and purchasing teams on product evaluations, code descriptions, inventory management, and pricing development.
  • Evaluates new products and makes recommendations on stock levels for new and existing product lines.
  • Designs, develops, and maintains technical documentation, databases, and reference files (e.g., engineering records, customer parts databases, product and vendor files, and technical libraries).
  • Serves as a liaison with manufacturing agents and vendors on strategic issues related to planning, marketing, new product launches, and training.
  • Conducts strategic market analysis to develop and implement annual sales strategies, including quarterly progress reviews.
  • Coordinates sales strategies with preferred vendors to maximize customer sales potential.
  • Provides input and feedback to sales and marketing management on customer needs, pricing, competition, procedures, and market potential.
  • Consistently delivers responsive, high-quality service to meet and exceed customer expectations.

Non-essential Functions

  • Inputs TCCM cost savings documentation that is relevant to the assigned customer base.
  • Performs product updates and new product launches for branches and customers as required.
  • Attends and assists with sales meetings, trade shows and training programs as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a four-year technical degree preferred or the equivalent in work experience.
  • 4 years minimum of prior customer service, marketing, quotation or sales experience preferred.
  • 3 years minimum of prior electrical distribution and quotations experience preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Border States product lines and applications, alternate product substitutes, and supplier pricing policies.
  • Knowledge and technical competence in understanding electrical underground system products and applications preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of PC for Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint), Internet, Email and SAP software preferred.
