Job Summary
The Library Assistant works independently within established guidelines. The position is supervised by the Collections and Metadata Librarian. Maintains and updates records and subscriptions for e-Resources and assures continuous access to all the library's electronic databases. The position acts as a resource for staff questions about electronic resource records and troubleshoots all access issues as needed. The position also manages interlibrary loan services, processing requests for print and digital resources from all law affiliates. Assists with Circulation desk services as required. This position will be a backup supervisor for student workers. - Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical training in library operations.
- Minimum of 3 years' work experience in library operations.
- Experience with word processing, email and database programs, searching library catalogs such as UC Library Search, World Cat as well as other online catalogs.
- Have a demonstrated knowledge in a range of electronic resources standards, access, formats, and systems, included but not limited to MARC, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), ALMA, OCLC Connexion, Serials Solutions, etc.
- Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision and supervise and coordinate undergraduate student workers as needed.
- Organize materials, maintain careful attention to detail, use sound judgment, analyze information, effectively troubleshoot, and evaluate situations and recommend solutions.
- Ability to interpret, develop and implement interlibrary loan/document delivery service policies and practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to provide outstanding library patron service and maintain professionalism.
- Computer skills in a Windows environment.

- Problem solving skills advanced enough to independently recognize and resolve numerous technical issues.
- Ability to manage considerable detail effectively and to work accurately, efficiently and quickly under pressure of deadlines and to notice inconsistencies.
- Demonstrated interpersonal communications skills to interact with various constituents of King Hall, ability to work as part of a team and help where needed.
- Familiarity with formats and terminology of legal materials to create and interpret records and answer questions.

Work Environment
- UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
