Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting new opportunity for a Communication/Navigation Engineer Senior, supporting the AFLCMC/WIS ISR/SOF Program, at Wright Patterson AFB, OH.



Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

    Applies advanced multidisciplinary engineering principles to support system development, execution, and trade-off studies across SOF acquisition programs.
  • Supports systems engineering and requirements analysis, including translating operational needs into design criteria, evaluating alternatives, and assessing airworthiness.
  • Implements DoD acquisition policies (DoDD 5000.1/2R) and AFMC/AFLCMC engineering processes in all technical and advisory tasks.
  • Assists in drafting engineering inputs for PWSs, RFPs, and CDRLs, and supports requirements development using tools like DOORS and IBM RSA.
  • Supports general engineering tasks related to communications and navigation systems across aircraft R&D, production, acquisition, and sustainment activities.
  • Provides avionics integration support and technical direction for CNS/ATM systems, including requirements generation, design, testing, and lifecycle management.
  • Serves as a technical focal point for Communication, Navigation, and Identification (CNI) systems, collaborating with USAF CNS/ATM agencies to develop performance metrics, verification methods, and civil airspace certification documentation.
  • Offers expertise in navigation databases and mission planning systems, including World Wide Navigation Database, terrain avoidance, and integration with suppliers like NGA, JEPPESEN, and avionics vendors.
  • Supports systems integration and certification efforts, including OSS&E, airworthiness (MIL-HDBK-516), system safety (MIL-STD-882), and lifecycle engineering per DAFI 63-1201.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Secret

Education/Years of Experience:

  • Master's or Doctorate Degree in a related field and ten years of experience in the respective technical / professional discipline being performed, five years of which must be in the DoD.
  • OR bachelor's degree in a related field and 12 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, five of which must be in the DoD.
  • OR, 15 years of directly related experience with proper certifications as described in the PWS labor category performance requirements, eight of which must be in the DoD.
  • Degree from an ABET-accredited educational program

Technical Skills

  • Systems Engineering & Requirements Analysis: Skilled in translating operational needs into technical requirements, conducting trade-off studies, and supporting airworthiness assessments.
  • Avionics & Navigation Systems Integration: Experienced in CNS/ATM and CNI systems integration, including design, testing, certification, and lifecycle support.
  • DoD Acquisition & Lifecycle Engineering: Proficient in applying DoDD 5000.1/2R policies and AFMC/AFLCMC processes across acquisition, sustainment, and engineering documentation.
  • Technical Documentation & Tools: Competent in drafting engineering inputs for acquisition documents (PWSs, RFPs, CDRLs) and using tools like DOORS and IBM Rational System Architect for requirements and architecture modeling.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, including systems engineers, technicians, and program managers, to ensure seamless integration of avionics systems.
  • Communicates complex technical concepts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to support documentation, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Adapts quickly to dynamic project environments and client needs, maintaining professionalism and productivity in high-pressure, fast-paced aerospace settings.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills, fostering a cooperative work environment and ensuring alignment with project goals and safety standards.
