Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

Position Summary:
This full-time position plays a key role in supporting the daily operations and strategic initiatives of the Learning Resource Center (LRC). The successful candidate will supervise and train student employees, manage study spaces, coordinate events, and assist with academic support services. This position reports to the Director of the Learning Resource Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the circulation desk with efficiency and synergy.
  • Assists students at the reception desk, addressing their questions and providing support.
  • Supervise and train student employees, and manage their schedules.
  • Maintain LRC study spaces as needed or assigned.
  • Promote student success and retention by coordinating with academic support services.
  • Assist students with presentation design and the use of presentation technologies.
  • Collaborate with LRC and other departments to coordinate events.
  • Plan, organize, and promote LRC sponsored activities and events.
  • Support student events with setup, staff scheduling, and tear-down as directed by the LRC Director.
  • Create and manage a variety of communication and marketing materials to support LRC initiatives.
  • Assist in preparing and completing LRC reports by gathering relevant data, organizing content, drafting and editing materials, and ensuring timely and accurate submission in line with reporting requirements.
  • Track and maintain data related to LRC co-curricular activities.
  • Cross-train LRC personnel across areas such as Library, Media Services, Food Pantry, Veteran's Center, and Student Lounge.
  • Provide support to all LRC areas as needed.
  • Contribute to college-wide efforts in recruitment, retention, persistence, and academic success.
  • Promote a customer service-focused environment, proactively assisting students, faculty, and staff with research-related issues, and providing customer service training.
  • Supervise LRC work-study students, assist with developing training programs, create training manuals, and establish work expectations and daily checklists.
  • Stay informed on trends in library sciences and technology, initiating adjustments to meet the evolving role of libraries.
  • Assist in evaluating physical and electronic collections, collaborating with the librarian to de-select, discard, or add materials as needed.
  • Attend relevant training sessions as assigned.
  • Assist LRC Director and Library Specialist with maintaining and enhancing the visual appeal of the library's trophy case, creating a "wow factor" for visitors.
  • Assist LRC Director and Library Specialist in organizing library events, such as book clubs, crafting events, book readings, and other staff/student activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall function and mission of the library and LRC.

Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of experience working with students or the public.
  • Strong commitment to student support and customer service.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, office technology, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including occasional evenings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
  • Bilingual.
  • Experience working at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).
  • Experience teaching at the community college level.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Capability to walk long distances and remain standing for prolonged periods.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles while performing job duties.
  • The work environment typically has a moderate noise level.
