Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor-Building Services.
In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for overseeing the cleaning operations in assigned areas throughout the medical center. Ensures a clean and sanitary environment ensuring that all department employees have a thorough understanding and use of all cleaning equipment and supplies and perform their duties satisfactorily. Responsibilities include the oversight/supervision of linen and escort duties and responsibilities
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Directly supervises the supervisory personnel in various areas and oversees the performance of the general staff. Ensures assignments are understood and institutes appropriate follow-up with supervisors to ensure the desired outcomes are reached. Allocates resources appropriately so that assignments can be accomplished in timely fashion. Makes allowances for individual initiative. Communicates to the supervisors their responsibilities and the standards of performance. Counsels the supervisors and employees (if necessary) in areas of their performance which require improvement and/or development. Performs a written evaluation of each supervisor after probation and thereafter on an annual basis; when performance dictates the need, completes additional evaluations. When indicated, implements the Medical Centers disciplinary process in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Develops and encourages a program of staff development. Plans the training and development of all staff in advance of implementation. Ensures that policies are procedures are up to date, well organized, and easily accessible to the supervisors and staff. Recognizes and identifies staff needs and develops staff programs to meet those needs (i.e. in-service training). Encourages supervisors and staff to pursue continuing education and seek professional growth. Ensures that supervisors maintain detailed records of performance and training status of probationary employees.
- Participates in developing, planning, and implementing new programs, including the development of related procedures/processes. Communicates the need for new policies and procedures to superiors in a timely manner. Understands what the departments goals are and sets objectives to meet them. Submits reports/plans, which are requested by superiors on time. Uses verifiable data as a basis for planning. Develops short and long range plans for the accomplishment of goals. Anticipates deviations from plans and makes additional plans for accommodations. Presents new innovative ideas, gives them the appropriate follow-up; and if necessary makes adjustments.
- Plans, organizes, and monitors all BSD (cleaning, linen, and escort) activities for all of the assigned areas under responsibility. Reviews service (cleaning/moving) needs, and schedules the workload of the various areas to ensure efficiency and the delivery of quality service. Provides guidance, direction, and recommendations for efficiencies in all BSD lines of service (linen, cleaning, and escort). Takes steps to correct errors in the delivery of BSD services either through direct action or communication to ensure quality service. Reviews all documentation completed by supervisory staff for compliance with procedures and clarity.
- Participates in cost control activities by seeking the most effective method of delivering services and maintains an awareness of the cost impact of decisions and actions. Evaluates and identifies areas of excessive cost. Arranges work to reduce or avoid overtime. Uses supplies efficiently and ensure that supplies are stored in a secured area. Uses equipment efficiently and ensures that equipment is in good working condition, cleaned and stored in secure area.
- Prepares reports and maintains statistical records. Researches information accurately and thoroughly. Composes related and required information in a clear and well-written manner.
- Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are available and properly maintained. Checks to ensure that all equipment is maintained according to manufacturers specifications. Reviews broken equipment to ensure it is properly tagged and repaired. Ensures that equipment is not being abused and is stored in a secured area. Makes recommendations for the replacement of equipment as necessary. Ensures there is an adequate level of cleaning supplies available at all times.
- Maintains safety and sanitary standards in areas of responsibility. Prepares quality assurance reports and accident reports and submits them to the Associate Director. Reviews daily reports completed by the Supervisor to address issues and resolve problems. Makes periodic inspections of areas of responsibility and submits inspection reports to the Associate Director on a timely basis. Enters completed work assignments clearly and legible in master log book; prepares a new log book every year. Ensures that all safety, health, and sanitation regulations are met in accordance with Federal, State and City regulations. Monitors Cleaning Service employees to determine compliance with instructions and quality of work. Utilizes audit results, quality assurance reports, and accident reports to improve the quality of service.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Bachelors degree plus two years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Management or a related field

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $64,350.00 - $68,348.80 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
