HDR Engineering is currently seeking multiple Power Transmission Section Manager to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals. Primary Responsibilities As part of a well-established Power Delivery practice, you will have the opportunity to build and lead your own team of overhead line design professionals while managing transmission line projects in the local region and beyond. You will likely have prior experience managing and providing technical leadership on small/medium/large projects and are now ready to take-on a broader role overseeing all aspects of the transmission team. Additionally, you will have the desire and drive to grow a high performing team of professionals and leverage existing staff across the company to deliver projects. You will support business development for new opportunities in the region and support proposal development within the practice. You will support technical training and technical growth of the team and be viewed as the local area subject matter expert in your specialty field. As a Power Transmission Section Manager your role will encompass the following:
- Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
- Function as Project Manager managing and leading transmission projects throughout the entire project life cycle, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, quality control, schedule, and budget management.
- Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
- Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
- Be directly involved with various types of clients in marketing and project production.
- See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
- Implement, monitor and support company policy
- Selecting, building, developing and supervising a local transmission team and providing oversight over workload, quality, utilization, team morale, training, and performing annual performance reviews of team members.
- Manage and develop multidiscipline teams
- Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
- Leading the QA/QC process on projects per HDR's Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements with a commitment to delivering world class quality.
- At times, being responsible for overseeing non-engineering components of projects, including geotechnical, public involvement, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, construction management, and other services.
- Leveraging existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services to clients in the region.
- Performing client management, project management, staff supervision, and/or technical support activities.
- Coordinating with HDR's Talent Acquisition team and leadership to develop a hiring plan to help build and grow a group of transmission professionals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years of transmission design experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of prior project management and staff management experience.
- Excellent client management skills, marketing, and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships with power delivery clients.
- Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm.
- Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers and project staff
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Good leadership and organizational skills
- Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
- PE license preferred, PMP is recommended.
- Act as client manager and/or project manager for select clients.
- Experience with data center and renewables projects.
- Development of technical papers and/or presentations that showcase technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
- Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM
- Experience with design tools for line design: i.e. PLS-CADD
