Role of the Waste Zero Supervisor
Supervises and motivates the Waste Zero team. Develops and maintains customer relationships and assists the Waste Zero Manager in developing waste diversion strategies. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develops, in coordination with management, strategies for waste diversion programs to ensure goals and compliance are met.
- Researches, develops, and implements new residential and commercial waste diversion programs, in conjunction with the Operations staff and improves penetration of existing services.
- Plans and administers waste diversion programs through a comprehensive approach involving regular contact with key customers and local jurisdiction, education, community-wide services, and analysis of waste auditing services.
- Oversees recycling services and related operations.
- Coordinates specialized projects for the Waste Zero team, delegates responsibilities, and resolves group conflict.
- Supervises the Waste Zero team, oversees project deliverables and reports to ensure effective use of resources and compliance, champions morale and facilitates collaboration.
- May prepare and help manage related budgets and plans for equipment and staffing.
- Manages and analyzes confidential customer and proprietary information per local and state regulations.
- Calls upon existing customers to obtain feedback and assurance of continued quality service, works to resolve escalated issues.
- Develops new customers while providing service and information to existing customers.
- Reviews audit reports on contamination and diversion issues and presents recap and strategies to address issues to management.
- Prepares and delivers speeches and presentations within the community and for customers.
- Attends and becomes active in local community organizations (Rotary, Chambers) as a representative of the company.
- Directs drivers in contamination processes for customers, including training, coaching, performance management and disciplinary action, as needed.
- Helps to build and support a safety culture within their team and the Company.
- Develops literature and brochures promoting the company and its services, surveys routes to verify rates, services, and efficiencies (size, frequency, quantity), and educates existing and new customers on various recycle and waste issues.
- May ensure certificates of insurance are in order.
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on business needs.
- Travels frequently to various offsite meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience in waste industry, recycling programs community relations, or related field preferred.
- Technical and professional principles, practices, laws, applications and programs in position related area.
- Current developments and trends in areas of marketing, communications, public outreach, and management.
- Computer programs, including Microsoft Office suite of applications, multi-tiered and web-based information systems architecture; infrastructural technologies relevant for business support (e.g. databases, server, etc.)
- Principles of employee training, supervision, and evaluation.
- Supervisory techniques, experience supervising non-exempt and exempt staff is ideal.
- Knowledge of Operational Safety guidelines.
- Travels frequently to various offsite meetings.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
