Patient Care Technician (PCT/HUC) Surgical/Telemetry

Unit Description:

2F/G is a 30 bed medical surgical/ telemetry unit that specializes in telemetry patients and fast turnaround surgery including urology bariatrics, and orthopedic overflow. This unit serves our Bariatric Center of Excellence patients. Our patient population is mostly transferred from the ED and PACU.

Shift:Part-time, Days

Job Summary:

  • Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or other licensed care team member, the Patient Care Tech (PCT/HUC) provides direct patient care and related support.

  • Performs selected nursing procedures and routine duties to assistmedical and nursing personnel in the examination, treatment, and care of patients.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with Patient Needs

  • Personal Hygiene Support:Assist patients with bathing, dental care, grooming, and dressing while maintainingtheir dignity and privacy.

  • Toileting Assistance:Aid patients with bowel and bladder functions, ensuring they are not left unattended during bathroom assistanceand documenting intake and output (I & O).

  • Nutritional and Mobility Support:Help patients with eating and drinking, serve meals, and assist in positioning formeals while ensuring proper body alignment during transfers and activities.

Perform Patient Care

  • Vital Signs and Documentation:Take and document vital signs, measure I & O, and assistin preparing patient histories and chart packs as delegated by nursing staff.

  • Procedure Preparation and Assistance:Prepare patients, equipment, and supplies for medical procedures, and provide manual assistanceas needed while ensuring adherence to hospital policies.

  • Direct Patient Care Tasks:Perform hygienic care, assist with feeding, and change dressings as delegated, all while maintainingpatient privacy and dignity.

Participate in Responsibilities of Unit

  • Housekeeping and Supply Management:Complete assigned housekeeping duties, replenish and rotate supplies, and run errands as necessary to support unit operations.

  • Emergency Response and Quality Improvement:Respond to emergency codes and actively participatein quality improvement activities, focusing on patient safety and satisfaction metrics.

  • Safety Training and Compliance:Attend requiredsafety training programs, understand responsibilities related to safety protocols, and collect and document specimens for laboratory analysis.

Minimum Education, Experience, Training and Licensures Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Current Kentucky Nurse Aide Certification requiredor currently enrolled in a nursing program with successful completion of first year and validation of clinical rotation.

  • Basic Life Support (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
