DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION * Provides clinical patient care within the scope of a Registered Nurse, including assessment of condition, goal setting, and nursing actions to meet the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient * Assesses, intervenes, and reassesses the patient's self-report and symptoms of pain promptly, utilizing an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment. * Demonstrates an understanding of medications' actions and side effects. Reports pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educates patients and their chosen support person(s) about medications. * Demonstrates the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes. * Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements policies and procedures of MU Health Care and assigned nursing unit. * Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. resident physician, ancillary support teams) and records those observations accurately and concisely. * Ensures smooth patient flow and efficient bed management within the unit. * Coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients as needed. * Communicates effectively with healthcare providers and other departments during emergencies. * Facilitates effective communication between nursing staff, interdisciplinary team members, patients, and families. * Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans and achieve optimal patient outcomes. * Provides clinical guidance, support, and performance feedback to nursing staff. * Serves as a resource for nursing staff regarding clinical issues and patient-care decisions. * Addresses and resolves patient care concerns and complaints promptly, escalating to the clinical manager or Office of Patient Experience as appropriate. * Conducts assigned audits of patient charts and documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. * Participates in quality improvement initiatives and unit-based quality improvement activities. * Audits adherence to infection control protocols and patient safety guidelines. * Participates in unit meetings, committees, and projects contributing to unit goals and initiatives. * Serves as a clinical and behavioral patient needs resource for educating staff, clinicians, and ancillary team members. * Responds to clinical and behavioral escalations as a resource and leader for responders. * Acts as primary operational leader in emergent situations in the emergency department or external to the emergency department in coordination with the House Manager and AOD; situations may include mass casualty incidents, emergency decontamination events, emergency lockdowns, etc. * Coordinates daily staffing assignments based on daily volumes, throughput, and patient acuities. Adjust staffing levels throughout the shift to maintain safe patient care standards. * Leads daily huddles with frontline staff members. Ensures visibility and support by rounding throughout all the assigned pods. * Serves as shift liaison between leaders external to the Emergency Department, such as House Managers, MOI, MUPC, external agencies (ambulance service, law enforcement), and ancillary support departments (lab, radiology, etc) to ensure smooth departmental operations. * May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. * One (1) year of RN experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
