Job Summary

UCSF Cryopreservation Core is seeking a Junior Cryopreservationist. This is a part time position starting at 50% with the opportunity to increase in the future. The UCSF Cryo Core's function is to process, maintain and distribute frozen transgenic mouse sperm and embryos as an efficient alternative for archiving the growing number of transgenic and mutant mouse strains. The Cryo Core archives, maintains and distributes frozen sperm and embryos to UCSF investigators and collaborators. The Cryo Core provides mouse sperm and embryo cryopreservation services as well as sperm and embryo resuscitations. We offer IVF rescue for difficult strains using laser-assisted IVF.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $26.00 - $31.04 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Research Resource Program (RRP) provides strategic planning and implementation of programs to support core facilities and other research resources at UCSF. RRP also provides administrative, operational and financial management tools and support to core facilities.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or related field or at least 4 years of experience in animal sciences or related field.
  • Must be willing to work with various strains of mice.
  • Must be willing to work with animals in a research setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting basic laboratory procedures.
  • Must be willing to perform mouse dissection, tissue collection and injections.
  • Experience in the following lab techniques: Cell Culture, in vitro sterile conditions, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, microscopy, immunohistochemistry
  • Skills to understand and follow lab protocols and procedures.
  • Skills to work with microscopes, computers and databases.
  • Attention to details.
  • Excellent record keeping.
  • Able to quickly and accurately input and manipulate data on a computer.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro
  • Experience with Research Information Online (RIO)
  • Experience with iLab

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience maintaining lab equipment.
  • Familiar with purchasing procedures, interacting with vendors and ordering lab supplies
  • Oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with others, and to instruct and interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to effectively multi-task.
