The University of California, Irvine School of Law is the culmination of several generations of revolutionary dreamers. Your Role on the Team

Works under the general supervision of the Acquisitions and Metadata Law Librarian. Recognizes and understands legal publication formats. Exhibits high-level paraprofessional judgment in bibliographic records, vendor records, and communication. Performs copy cataloging with little or no revision. Orders materials and processes invoices. Updates catalog records. Corresponds with vendors. Tabulates and reports statistics.

Processes materials. Participates as a cardholder in campus procurement card program. Provides Public Services support by serving a minimum of ten hours per week at a library services point; assists law librarians with research, document delivery, and interlibrary loan, as needed; and assists law librarians with the editing and preparation of assignments for the Legal Research Practicum and other courses, as needed.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Experience working in a law library.
  • Working knowledge of OCLC.
  • Experience searching in various bibliographic and web interfaces.
  • Working knowledge of an integrated library system's technical service functions.
  • Skill to adapt to change and balance work priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed tasks independently with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Effective English oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform accurate calculations to reconcile financial and statistical data.
  • Knowledge of the bibliographic characteristics of monographs and continuing resources in all formats, especially those in legal literature.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and to interact diplomatically with staff, publishers and vendors.
  • Ability to work at a computer workstation for extended periods of time.
  • Keyboard skills and ability to operate a computer or workstation with appropriate software.
  • Ability to analyze problems and resolve or appropriately refer them.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining accurate records and files.
  • Ability to apply and adhere to library policies.
  • Ability to master and comply with campus procurement policies.
  • Demonstrated record of punctuality and regular work attendance.
  • Relative Experience

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of cataloging rules and resources (RDA, Library of Congress rule interpretations, classification and subject headings).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $29.92- $33.53 (Hourly).
