Northwestern University Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease (Mesulam Center) is seeking an exceptional social worker who demonstrates a pronounced interest in working with persons with neurocognitive disorders and their families in a diversity of roles. The Social Worker will work as a team member to provide clinical care for persons living with dementia and their families and achieve the goals and objectives of the Outreach, Recruitment and Community Engagement (ORE) Core, the Miller Family Buddy Program, in addition to other psychosocial initiatives. Specifically, the Social Worker will provide clinical social work services for persons living with dementia and their caregiving families in the Neurobehavior and Memory Clinic of Northwestern Medical Group; contribute to the recruitment and retention of research participants that meet Center research priorities; manage and facilitate monthly care partner support groups; and participate in the coordination and planning of an annual scientific conference. In addition, they will participate in the preparation and review of annual progress reports and competitive renewal for the NIA and other funding agencies. The Mesulam Center is a multi-departmental component of the Feinberg School of Medicine. We specialize in the clinical care and scientific study of neurological diseases that interfere with cognition and behavior. Areas of emphasis include age-related memory, language-based and behavioral dementias. We are focused on Alzheimer's disease, Primary Progressive Aphasia and Frontotemporal Dementia. Our three interacting missions are to investigate the causes and clinical characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, to ensure that our patients and families are the beneficiaries of the latest research advances, and to prepare future scientists and clinicians in our field. Specific Responsibilities:
Miscellaneous Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in social work or related field. Will consider an MSW eligible for LCSW within 6 -12 months. Possess competencies in individual, family and group counseling. Possess knowledge of community resources for persons living with dementia - both older adults and young onset (<60 years of age) and their caregiving families. Possess an understanding of healthcare policies affecting persons living with dementia and their caregiving families. Experience working with diverse communities and demonstrated ability to be interculturally competent and culturally responsive. Possess superior organizational and time management skills. Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) COW - Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills ORG - Good organizational and time management skills PRS - Good problem-solving skills CUF - Customer service focused MEETS DE - Ability to work accurately with interruptions, to meet deadlines; COMP - Good computer skills with experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in social work or related field with 3-5 years of clinical experience. LCSW - Licensed Clinical Social Worker Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities) Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with persons living with dementia and their families.
