Continuation past the termlengthdiscussed willbebasedonuniversityneed,performance,and/oravailabilityoffunding.POSITION SPECIFICS The Department of Architectural Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a professional track (non-tenure-line) Assistant Research Professor position within the SHINElab (Smart Human-centered buIlt eNvironmEnt lab for Sustainability, Resilience, and Wellbeing). We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individual with a strong background in building system research, data-driven methods, and graduate student mentorship. The SHINElab is an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to advancing innovation at the intersection of technology, engineering, and human well-being. The successful candidate will contribute to developing a sustainable and resilient built environment that promotes the well-being of both humans and the planet. This work will integrate advances in AI, sensing, and energy technologies to develop human-centered smart building and energy system solutions. Responsibilities and Expertise Candidates should demonstrate expertise and experience in the following areas:
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as this position involves collaboration across disciplines, preparation of research reports and publications, and communication of results to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with human subject data is desirable but not required. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team and play an active role in shaping the research direction of SHINElab. Responsibilities will include leading research on emerging technologies, publishing and presenting research findings, mentoring graduate students, and contributing to proposal development and reporting to project sponsors. The Assistant Research Professor will also serve as a member of the SHINElab leadership team. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
