Job Description

Summary

Under general supervision, this position maintains, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial machinery and mechanical systems to ensure optimal production efficiency and safety. This role requires strong technical skills, precision, and adherence to safety standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Functions

  • Review and interpret engineering specifications, schematics, and blueprints to determine work requirements.
  • Use general shop equipment, including manual lathe and mill to fabricate, broach, weld, grind and file machinery parts.
  • Install, fit, align and secure full machines or mechanical assemblies and components.
  • Collaborate with other trades and vendors on coordinated maintenance tasks or cross-discipline troubleshooting.
  • Test equipment for efficiency and durability and make adjustments when necessary.
  • Complete inspections and replace defective equipment.
  • Construct and install equipment such as guards, shafting, conveyors and tram rails.
  • Maintain inventory of parts worked on during an installation.
  • Disassemble and reassemble equipment for repair or transportation.
  • Work with a range of hand tools including welding and brazing equipment.
  • Use precision measurement instrument including micrometers, height gages, and indicators to verify parts meet blueprint requirements.
  • Determine which machines, techniques, and tools to use when moving equipment and completing jobs.
  • Service hydraulic systems
  • Perform routine machine maintenance
  • Per location, may need to be on call at times.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Position Qualifications

Education: H.S.D, Apprenticeship and/or vocational school/technology certificate.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of millwright experience in manufacturing.
  • Expertise in mechanical fitting, precision alignment, hydraulics/pneumatics, and basic welding/fabrication.
  • Ability to produce precision parts from mechanical drawings and verify with measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators).
  • Competence with CMMS and basic computer skills.

Preferred

  • Technical certificate/apprenticeship in Millwright/Industrial Maintenance.
  • Experience with packaging/presses/extrusion/continuous processing equipment.
  • Familiarity with predictive maintenance tools and reliability practices.
  • Basic electrical familiarity (motors, sensors, VFDs) to assist electricians (no live work beyond training/scope).
  • Forklift/aerial lift certification.
