FTE: 0.5, Shift: Day, Schedule: 6:45am - 3:15pm

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist II demonstrates expert knowledge and proficiency in all specialties (must complete skill competency check list for department). The Surgical Technologist II functions as a primary preceptor for training students and new/current staff members. Demonstrates leadership abilities and serves as a mentor/role model for surgical staff. The Surgical Technologist II assists with the preparation of supplies and equipment, patient preparation and scrubbing, and assists the Surgeon during surgical intervention.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists in a variety of surgeries carrying out the functions appropriate to each.
2. Performs a variety of duties in operating room to assist the surgical team before, during and after surgical intervention (including C-sections), including arranging sterile setup for operation, acting as scrub or circulating assistant and assisting in clean up after the surgery.
3. Demonstrates advance knowledge of and proficient practice in the first scrub role in surgical procedures in a variety of specialties.
4. Prepares room in a timely manner with all anticipated instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for each individual surgical procedure; knows instrumentation terminology, set-up and needed equipment.
5. Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments/procedures.
6. Performs services requiring technical or manual skills under the direction of the RN.
7. Responsible for care of instruments/equipment during intra/postoperative phase; demonstrates critical thinking skills in relation to anticipating the perioperative needs of the surgeon and patient.
8. Completes operating room counts; follows proper procedure in the event of incorrect count; reports all discrepancies to RN and Surgeon and/or corrects immediately.
9. Completes all cases with minimal assistance and errors.

10. Applies knowledge of advanced surgical techniques and brings in new techniques based on scientific practice and AST.
11. Collaborates with other members of the nursing team to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
12. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with medical staff, employees from other departments, and co-workers.
13. Understands role and responsibility during Emergency Codes.
14. Demonstrates leadership abilities and attends department or committee meetings as necessary.
15. Performs minimum procedures that are required for Surgical Technologist II on competency form.
16. Provides input to the lead tech for Surgeons' preference cards, precepts new employees, assists to sign off competencies and helps manage inventory.
17. Develops, organizes and delivers at least one educational in-service per year to the surgical staff.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate's Degree or technical Surgical Technologist degree required. Related experience may be substituted in lieu of education; minimum 15 years' experience required for education substitution.
Experience: Experience as a Surgical Technologist for minimum of three (3) years. Completes necessary competency sign-off for Surgical Technologist II.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Washington State (DOH) Surgical Technologist licensure required. American Heart Association BLS required. Certified Surgical Technologist with the National Board of Surgical Technology preferred. Washington State (DOH) Nursing Assistant-Registered preferred.

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $35.51 - $51.10 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
