As a Senior P&C Actuarial Specialist on the Actuarial Data & Tools Team at American Family Insurance, you will work within the enterprise product area. This team builds and maintains advanced pricing platforms and processes to support Auto, Property, and Commercial pricing. You will use Python, SQL, and database management skills to develop new tools, update pricing platforms for rate revisions nationwide, and collaborate with other teams to create actuarial solutions.

You will report to the Director, Actuary.

Relocation assistance may be provided.

Based on experience, candidates can be considered at different levels.

Position Compensation Range:

$88,000.00 - $145,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities



  • Create, maintain, and enhance data parsing scripts.
  • Complete and improve data validation processes to deliver pricing datasets.
  • Lead data initiatives for pricing, including dataset development and analytical consultation.
  • Contribute to recommendations and updates for ratemaking methodologies.
  • Explore new actuarial concepts, statistical models, and data sources to deliver innovative business solutions.
  • Help develop pricing and rating structures for new products.
  • Help develop classification ratemaking methodologies and models.


Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Education Requirements



  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support, or service.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of property & casualty products, pricing, valuation, financial reporting, and industry trends.
  • Demonstrated experience, communicating complex actuarial analysis to business partners.
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience using actuarial software with database tools and statistical tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with programming languages.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • In pursuit of Associate or Fellow in Casualty Actuary Society.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Proficient in SQL, R, Python, VBA, or similar programming languages.
  • Completed at least one CAS or SOA exam, with plans to pursue additional exams.
  • Strong understanding of property and casualty products, pricing, rates, and industry trends.
  • Solid knowledge of underwriting guidelines and principles.
  • Experience in statistical and actuarial analysis, data forecasting, and modeling techniques.

In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110.
