New Production Development Engineer (Manufacturing)

Born from many well-known and long-standing brands, Howmet Fastening Systems, headquartered in Torrance, California, is the premier designer and manufacturer of aerospace and industrial fasteners, latches, fluid fittings and installation tools. Our products are used nose to tail on commercial and military aircraft, as well as on jet engines, industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, wind turbines, solar power systems, and construction and industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the production of prototypes, test units and subsequent manufacturing and testing to meet quality standards and planned schedules for delivery within target cost parameters.
  • Design and prepare product drawings, operations sheets, process instructions, and maintain to latest revisions.
  • Determine manufacturing methodology and rates, material requirements, coordinate processing products with secondary operations suppliers, and enter into business management system.
  • Coordinates with various departments to integrate new products into the manufacturing system, and improve existing products by providing support on equipment, tooling and processes.
  • Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and validate design.
  • Prepares or coordinates preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings.
  • Plans and designs trials, coordinates test programs and evaluate test results.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to simulate manufacturing processes.
  • Analyzes test data and cycle time to determine if design and process meet functional and performance targets.

Benefits/Salary:

The position includes competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), excellent 401k matching program, paid holidays and vacation. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 on an annual basis.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, with concentration in Manufacturing or Mechatronics
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in a high-precision industry (e.g., aerospace, medical devices, energy) that may include forging, machining, stamping and/or assembly
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated positive attitude toward applied research, the appreciation of scientific values (integrity, ethics, originality, and innovation).
  • 5+ years relevant work experience programing CNC, PLC or Robots
  • Understands and has working knowledge of aircraft construction, aerospace specifications, metallurgy and material and processes relevant to the construction of aircraft.
  • CNC Machining experience in an engineering capacity (3 and 5 axis milling and turning with live tooling)
  • Effectively communicate in one of the following languages in addition to English: French, German and/or Japanese
  • Able to evaluate risks and consequences and propose mitigation strategies
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize technical information, product specification, and test results into meaningful conclusions
  • Proficiency in using Solid Works, MS office tools and basic computer programming.
