We want to find an innovative, adaptable, and results-oriented Network Modeling Engineer for our Energy Management Systems team. This position is located in Northboro, MA. What you'll do

As a Network Modeling Engineer, you'll support the development, maintenance, and validation of the electric transmission network model and real-time contingency analysis (RTCA) within National Grid's Energy Management System (EMS). You'll ensure accurate system representation and reliable grid operations through modeling, analysis, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders. You'll work closely with Control Center Operations, ADMS /OMS teams, and other stakeholders, and will participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support. Key responsibilities include the following:

  • Build and maintain EMS network models using tools such as AspenTech Monarch, GE e-terrasource or Hitachi Network Manager.
  • Configure and maintain RTCA, State Estimator, and Power Flow applications.
  • Analyze contingency scenarios and provide operational recommendations.
  • Maintain and update Load Shed and Voltage Reduction Plans in EMS databases.
  • Coordinate modeling and data exchange with ISO/RTOs and neighboring utilities.
  • Troubleshoot data acquisition issues including RTU protocols (DNP3.0), ICCP links, and communication circuits.
  • Maintain EMS historian applications and develop reports from historical data.
  • Design, configure, and maintain graphical displays for SCADA.
  • Ensure accurate representation of field assets and network topology.
  • Collaborate with operators to enhance display usability and situational awareness.
  • Support EMS software upgrades, patching, and performance testing.
  • Administer remote access interfaces including PI Historian and EMS Thin Client.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with NERC/CIP & TOP standards.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours support for SCADA systems.
About you
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.
  • Preferably 2+ years of EMS or SCADA engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with modeling tools and protocols (ICCP, DNP3, Modbus).
  • Experience with Unix/Linux, SQL, scripting (Python, Perl, Powershell), and network troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with NERC/CIP & TOP standards and cybersecurity practices.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively during on-call support situations.
