National Grid Ventures is hiring a Lead Analyst, Business Development. This hybrid role can sit in either our Waltham MA, Brooklyn NY or Albany NY location.

Job Purpose

The Analyst will be a critical resource in the commercial and asset development team of NGV's US organization. The origination team is responsible for the identification, forming relationships and structuring future opportunities aligned to NGV's US businesses. This role is specially focused on engagement within external parties and specifically potential customers and partners that NGV can support and team with on various projects. Furthermore, the Analyst will be responsible for coordinating their work across the broader NGV US team including, as an example, regional development and commercial leads, engineering and technical managers, permitting and siting and the commercial strategy team.

This role is a unique opportunity to work with a highly dynamic, motivated, forward-thinking, commercially oriented team; to interact with, build external relationships, identify and solve complex challenges facing large-scale energy development across generation, transmission and energy usage. The role will include frequent collaboration and coordination with National Grid Ventures' other internal teams and requires the ability to identify key issues that could impact NGV US's overall strategy

Key Accountabilities
  • Supporting the team through research and by attending in-person meetings and conferences for the identification, building and maintaining relationships with potential customers and partners in geographic markets and across technologies aligned to NGV's US growth strategy
  • Working with members of the Origination team and regional leads to transition external relationships to potential deals through innovation, knowledge of market and trends and by incorporating NGV's growth strategy
  • Being a key team member outlining potential project and partnership terms with external counterparties, coordinating with appropriate internal teams
  • Continually being up to date on market trends and forecasts including shifting policies impacting our business including regional and technology specific variations, and sharing this information with origination and broader NGV US team including commercial strategy
  • Regularly attend, participate and speak at industry events including serving as an NGV ambassador on our portfolio of projects and representing our growth and expansion strategy
  • Collaborate with diverse groups within National Grid to ensure awareness of NGV projects and internal alignment on growth priorities and strategies
  • Provide input and coordinate with NGV's corporate strategy and related groups by providing market and customer intelligence gained by being active with customers and potential partners
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred, with at least 3-4 years of relevant professional experience working with an Independent Power Producer (IPP), transmission developer / owner / operator, engineering / consulting firm servicing the generation / transmission industry, RTO / ISO, government or energy trade association involved in a business development function
  • Educational background in engineering, life sciences, economics, policy and/or law
  • Detail-oriented, independent self-starter, quick-learner, and analytical
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of US, regional and State energy policy and markets, and experience within the ISO / RTO regions of the NYISO, NE-ISO, PJM, SPP, and MISO
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships among IPPs, developers, transmission owners and trade associations and incorporate those relationships for NGV's US business
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel approximately 90%

Salary

Downstate NY $143,000 - $168,000 a year

New England MA $133,000 - $157,000 a year

Upstate NY $119,000 - $140,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
