Who We Are

BioMarin is a global biotechnology company that relentlessly pursues bold science to translate genetic discoveries into new medicines that advance the future of human health.

Since our founding in 1997, we have applied our scientific expertise in understanding the underlying causes of genetic conditions to create transformative medicines, using a number of treatment modalities.

Using our unparalleled expertise in genetics and molecular biology, we develop medicines for patients with significant unmet medical need. We enlist the best of the best - people with the right technical expertise and a relentless drive to solve real problems - and create an environment that empowers our teams to pursue bold, innovative science. With this distinctive approach to drug discovery, we've produced a diverse pipeline of commercial, clinical and preclinical candidates that have well-understood biology and provide an opportunity to be first-to-market or offer a substantial benefit over existing therapeutic options.

About Technical Operations

BioMarin's Technical Operations group is responsible for creating our drugs for use in clinical trials and for scaling production of those drugs for the commercial market. These engineers, technicians, scientists and support staff build and maintain BioMarin's cutting-edge manufacturing processes and sites, provide quality assurance and quality control to ensure we meet regulatory standards, and procure the needed goods and services to support manufacturing and coordinating the worldwide movement of our drugs to patients.
SUMMARY:
The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects.
Network Strategy is a small, high impact team that shapes how BioMarin designs and evolves its global manufacturing and supply network to enable long term growth. The group develops forward looking strategies that ensure reliable patient supply while improving cost performance, cash flow, and speed to market. This work includes defining long range network plans, evaluating how future demand, pipeline evolution, and technology shifts affect BioMarin's manufacturing footprint, and applying clear design principles to balance resiliency, flexibility, and efficiency. Partnering closely with senior leaders and cross functional teams, Network Strategy translates complex business priorities into structured, executive level recommendations that guide major investment and network decisions.
JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:
  • Own the design and development of a core network strategy analytics model that will be used to directly guide BioMarin's Drug Product (DP) manufacturing network strategy. This is not an analysis support role-the intern will build a durable decision support capability that informs real strategic choices.
  • Develop a probabilistic, end to end network model from scratch, using Excel based tools and stochastic / Monte Carlo techniques, to assess long term patient demand versus internal and external DP manufacturing capacity under uncertainty.
  • Apply the model to support DP scenario analysis and strategic decision making, including network resiliency, capacity trade offs, and long term supply risk.
  • Partner closely with Network Strategy leaders and BioMarin subject matter experts to translate real world business assumptions (e.g., demand ranges, capacity timing uncertainty, regulatory and tech transfer constraints) into structured, scenario based analyses.
  • Deliver clear, decision ready insights and recommendations that directly inform a go forward DP network strategy for senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to shaping how BioMarin owns, evolves, and institutionalizes internally developed analytics tools to support long term network strategy.
Required Skills:
  • Strong quantitative and structured problem solving skills, with the ability to frame complex and ambiguous business questions
  • Experience building analytical or decision support models from the ground up (Excel or similar tools), with a focus on clarity, logic, and usability
  • Ability to synthesize complex analyses into clear, concise insights and communicate effectively with technical and non technical stakeholders
Desired Skills:
  • Exposure to probabilistic modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, scenario analysis, or decision making under uncertainty preferred
  • Prior experience in strategy, operations, supply chain, analytics, or consulting is beneficial
  • Interest in biopharma manufacturing, global supply networks, or long range strategic planning
  • Comfort working in an ownership oriented role where approaches and tools are iteratively developed and refined
Qualifications/Eligibility:
  • Currently pursuing an MBA or Master's degree in a quantitative, analytical, or strategy oriented discipline (e.g., Operations, Supply Chain, Analytics, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Strategy, or related fields).
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new analytical techniques quickly, with guidance from experienced subject matter experts
  • Strong intellectual curiosity, independence, and comfort taking responsibility for a complex, high impact project
  • Must be available to work full time, 40 hours a week.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. based university or college and enrolled in the fall term after the completion of the internship OR have graduated within 1 year of the start of the program.
  • Must be able to relocate if necessary and work at the designated site for the duration of the internship for on-site, hybrid roles. Some positions will be open to remote interns, but employee must be within United States borders.
Benefits of a BioMarin Internship:
  • Paid hourly wage, paid company holidays, and sick time
  • Apply skills and knowledge learned in the classroom to on-the-job experiences
  • Comprehensive, value-added project(s)
  • Develop skills specific to your major.
  • Opportunities for professional development by building relationships and learning about other parts of the business.
  • Participate in company all hands meetings, monthly community lunches
  • Corporate office amenities such as 24/7 on-site gym, coffee truck, snacks
  • Access to Employee Resource Groups
