Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has an exciting opportunity for a Counterintelligence Officer (CIO) in its Counterintelligence Program within the Brookhaven Field Office (BFO).Reporting to the Senior Counterintelligence Officer, the Counterintelligence Officer will:
  • Develop, implement, manage, enhance, and maintain all required elements of the Counterintelligence Program for Brookhaven National Lab including but not limited to the remote facilities under the AOR of the BFO (Laboratory for Laser Energetics, Princeton Plasma Physics National Laboratory, and the West Valley Demonstration Project)
  • Conduct briefings/debriefings of travelers to foreign countries, hosts of foreign national visitors and assignees, and employees with significant foreign national interactions
  • Provide CI awareness training for all categories of employees
  • Conduct sophisticated investigations in matters of CI/CT concern
  • Coordinate with and assist the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the U. S. Intelligence Community members in queries and investigations at department facilities concerning DOE or laboratory employees/assets
  • Complete reports and assignments as required
  • Provide assistance and SME support for activities of CI/CT concern within the Insider Threat Program, Unclassified Foreign Visits and Assignments, Official Foreign Travel, OPSEC, Information Security, and Personnel Security Programs
  • Manage office-specific physical security programs
  • Perform other CI duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • At least six (6) years of contemporary, relevant experience, displaying highly motivated development and expertise, in intelligence, counterintelligence, or criminal investigations at the federal or state government level
  • At least 2 years program leadership experience
  • Considerable skill in interview techniques
  • Highly developed/sophisticated oral and written communications skills
  • Experience in developing and conducting training and briefing programs
  • Proficient computing skills including MS office and secure databases
  • Ability to interact productively with the unique culture of the scientific and academic community
  • Self-reliance and the ability to operate within a highly motivated team environment is essential
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS clearance with additional compartmented access as deemed necessary
  • Must successfully complete a rigid background check with a limited-scope polygraph examination concerning National Security issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years management or program experience in intelligence, counterintelligence or criminal investigations at the federal level.
  • Global geopolitical skills, insights, and expertise
  • Active TS security clearance
  • At least 15 years of contemporary, relevant experience, displaying highly motivated development and expertise, in intelligence, counterintelligence, or criminal investigations at the federal or state government level
