Position Summary
This position will be responsible for recruitment/enrollment and delivering the PROTECT program, which includes supporting families and connecting them to any necessary resources. This will include implementation of the program and data collection.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform surveys, interviews, observations or uses other methods according to established research protocols.
  • Prepare data for analysis and execute details of studies. This includes documenting the implementation of the program and collecting data on participants after each session (all training will be provided).
  • Responsible for recruitment/enrollment and delivering the PROTECT program, which includes 10 sessions over the 6 months after a child has their dental surgery at UIC. The first session will take place at the College of Dentistry during the child's surgery, which will last about 60 minutes. The remaining sessions will take place over phone or zoom and last about 30 minutes.
  • Support families in reaching study goals (twice a day adult-assisted toothbrushing and decreasing sugar consumption).
  • Connect families to any necessary resources.
  • Will be expected to attend in-person monthly meetings with the internal PROTECT team and regular meetings with the project manager and/or research leaders onsite.
  • Will be required to provide important field observations to the research team
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required.
  • Spanish proficiency/fluency required
  • Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Entry level knowledge of research methods.
  • Community health worker or equivalent training.
  • Ability to work independently and part of a team
  • Flexibility in working hours. PROTECT is a program that is tailored to each family's needs, which includes adapting to a caregiver's availability. This may require CHWs to "meet" with caregivers by phone, videoconference (Zoom meeting) during evenings and/or weekends.
  • Organizational skills related to completing research documents (i.e. note taking)
  • Experience working in RedCap (research data collection tool)
  • Adaptability; as caregiver needs and availability may constantly change
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills

  • Field Experience as a Community Health Worker
