| Position Summary |
The Department of Orthopaedics' primary mission is to provide excellent clinical care, promote education and training in musculoskeletal health, and engage in groundbreaking research. The orthopedic faculty/physicians, in collaboration with
UNC Health, deliver clinical care primarily to the patients of
UNC Health at the
UNC Medical Center, as well as various other
UNC Health affiliate sites across the state. The Department's residency program trains orthopedic residents and offers several fellowship opportunities for specialized education in orthopedic subspecialties. The Department is also recognized for its research in musculoskeletal health, including biomechanics, tissue engineering, and orthobiologics.
The Academic Support Coordinator for the Department of Orthopaedics provides comprehensive administrative support and coordination across various academic programs and divisions. Key responsibilities include coordinating Undergraduate Medical Education programs, including the MS3 clinical rotations, coordinator for the Acting Internship for MS4's, and department coordinator for the
UNC
SOM Castillo Scholars Program for rising MS2's. This role will manage all aspects of these programs, including scheduling, student communication, and program logistics. Additionally, the role serves as the Surgical Simulation Lab Coordinator, ensuring the efficient operation of the lab space, managing supply logistics, maintaining safety standards, and supporting residents' simulation education. This role will also act as our research operations coordinator, this role will handle travel arrangements, expense reporting, and meeting coordination for PhD faculty, as well as manage the OrthoRaMS lecture series. Additionally, the position supports the Pediatric Orthopaedics Fellowship Program by coordinating recruitment, onboarding, and administrative processes. Lastly, this role will provide administrative support to the Orthopaedic Oncology division, the specialist will manage calendars, assist patients, arrange travel, process expenses, and maintain faculty CVs. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
| Management Preferences |
- Willing to work with biological specimens and participate in skills lab exercises.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple schedules, adapt to changing demands, work independently, and remain calm under pressure.
- Experience with the following software applications: MedHub, MS Office, WebEx, and Zoom.
- Prior experience in a medical simulation environment, surgical teaching environment, or in an academic medical setting.
